The Christmas spirit was extinguished for a brief time at a shopping mall in Sydney where a dozen people were injured and five hospitalized after a mob of people reaching for free gifts inside of balloons crushed each other as the balloons dropped. A Santa standing behind a display in an adjacent Christmas village was also knocked down in the melee.
