Here's something I happened upon tonight that further impressed upon me (if that's possible) that Provincetown is a melting pot for every kind of character imaginable in the world. For me, this is actually a fascinating look at Ptown from the point of view of a “former homosexual” turned Christian activist upon his return to the town during the summer of 2003, twelve years after his original visit as one of “the sinners”.
“The tiny town was clearly packed, vibrant and alive. It was then little by little one could hear the gasps from the Christians on the bus. As all eyes focused in on the crowd, you could see homosexual men were walking hand in hand. Lesbians had their arms linked together, sneaking a passionate kiss as they strolled in and out of the town's shops. Caricature-like drag queens roamed the streets in their high heels — hawking at the visitors to come and see a drag show while visiting. Parents and their children, some toddlers in strollers, walked among the homosexuals, seemingly unaffected by the public displays of ‘gayness.'” More…
