Robert Mapplethorpe exhibit curated by David Hockney to open in London.
From The New Statesman: “While we were going through Robert’s entire body of work, I noticed three photos side by side that seemed to evoke the underlying theme of the show. You could call our show ‘Lord Snowdon, Cock & Devil, and the Governor of California’,” Hockney says, referring to the formal portrait of the celebrated English photographer, a graphic still life of a penis and small bronze devil armed with trident and chains, and a beefcake photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger taken in 1976 during his body-building days.
