It hasn't been a good couple of months for Mark Foley. The former congressman who stepped down following the discovery of “inappropriate” emails and sexually-charged IMs and entered rehab at Sierra Tucson in Arizona has returned home to face the death of his 85-year-old father Ed after a three-year battle with cancer. Foley is said to be “devastated” over the loss.
Surely a difficult time to face both a death in the family and a media starved for any kind of contact.
Additionally, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has opened a criminal investigation into the instant messages sent by Foley: “Florida law prohibits seducing or attempting to seduce a minor. However, authorities have said the term ‘seduce' is open to interpretation.”
Said a spokeswoman for the organization: It was a preliminary inquiry before, but we found the basis to open up a criminal investigation.”
Foley is still under investigation by the FBI as it tries to determine whether or not the congressman broke any federal laws.
