Quebec on Alert After "Barbaric" Anti-Gay Beating
The victim of a vicious anti-gay attack in Quebec City on July 1 has come forward, the Canadian Press reports:
"Philippe, who did not release his last name, says four men with shaved heads followed him after he left the Le Drague gay bar in downtown Quebec City on July 1. After calling the 24-year-old man derogatory names, the assailants knocked him to the ground. In a melee lasting less than 60 seconds, the men punched and kicked him repeatedly. The victim spent two days in hospital and doctors needed eight screws to reassemble his jaw."
The attack has prompted gay rights groups to hold a brunch "to condemn homophobia" during upcoming gay pride festivities. The brunch will be held at a venue at Place d’Youville in Quebec City, where the man was targeted.
Said Olivier Poulin, president of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Quebec: "This man who was attacked is not alone. He has a community with him. He wanted to make sure other young people would not have to face attacks such as this. It’s very symbolic to hold [the meeting] a few steps from the (provincial) national assembly, a few steps from city hall and a few steps from where the young man was attacked."

Your pic shows Place d'Youville in Montréal. Philippe was attacked in Québec City where there is another place called Youville.

Don't let this alter anyone's plans to visit Montreal and Quebec City... so many delicious French-Canadian men, so little time. And Quebec City is such a jewel...

Depends on who's at the brunch. If the meal ends with a few checks to fund a community policing initiative, then I'd say the brunch and the mimosas were a success.

Isn't it a bit ironic that they are prompted to have a brunch in response to the beating of a man whose jaw had to be screwed together and presumably is eating out of a straw?

Hm. Ridicule the locals for meeting to decide how to respond to a gay-bashing -- and the locals are in the country that put equal marriage INTO the constitution? Hm. Sounds like Americans.
What, no Log Cabin trolls to ask for a picture to see how flaming the victim was and suggest that he needs to be more careful about flaming in public?

What about inviting those 4 "macho guys" to prove themselves to be really macho: each one of them against 4 (big) gay guys... and let's see. They shuldn't be afraid of gays, should they?
That happens in my Country (Italy) as well and oddly enough there are always 3 or 4 guys beating one... That's what I call being "really tough".
That shit just needs to be beaten up, but yes, later it stinks even more...
