"Ex-Gay" Edmonton Mayoral Candidate Courts the Bigot Vote
Bill Whatcott, a candidate for mayor in Edmonton, Alberta is happy to run on a platform of hate.
Says Whatcott: "Homosexuality is killing young men with diseases like anal warts, anal gonorrhoea and anal cancer -- you're not going to get that living the lifestyle of a Ukrainian. I don't expect people to like me but I've got supporters, especially in church circles. If you don't like me don't vote for me."
According to the Winnipeg Sun, the "fringe candidate's" views are being tolerated by local out gay public figures. Councillor Michael Phair and Edmonton Police Commissioner Murray Billet both say let him run...at the mouth:
"Billet agreed to weigh-in on Whatcott 'because it's important to expose what a cowboy this guy really is.' He called Whatcott a poor representative of Edmonton in 2007 and said his 'platform of intolerance' harm the city's image. 'His message is vitriolic and un-Canadian. This is the kind of person who gives Albertan's a red-neck reputation and it's undeserved.' Phair called Whatcott's comments 'distasteful' and his campaign 'amateur,' as it fails to address any local issues such as infrastructure or transit. 'And as a gay politician I can tell you voters don't care about your sexual orientation. They care about paved roads, improved traffic flow and snow removal. And they don't want someone who is intolerant.'"
Whatcott has an interesting background. The paper reports that the candidate "admits performing 'homosexual acts' for money as a teen but has since 'found God and repented for the repugnant things' in his past."

Being an Edmontonian, I do have a bit of input to add to this article.
Bill Whatcott has also been banned from Regina, Saskatchewan for his intolerance and hate. Multiple human rights complaints were targeted at him whilst there, and the province essentially kicked him out.
Now he is spewing his religious propaganda and filth in my fair city, and it makes me sick to the stomach.
Luckily we have very open, high-ranking officials in our city. The level of acceptance here is astounding. It like an island of liberalism in the Alberta sea of intolerance.
Go Edmonton!

Why is it they always go for the venereal diseases and cheap shots about sex when trying to attack us. Women can carry more diseases in and around their vagina than anything men can carry. Whenever someone resorts to that kind of attack, you must realize they are fucking idiots who have no idea what they are talking about. I'm a 41 year old who has been in a relationship for 15 years and I've NEVER had an STD.

Oh yeah..I cant even begin to count all the friends that I have lost to anal gonorrhea..Its a killing epidemic...
What the fuck is this guy talking about? Where are all the normal gay guys in the public eye? Why are the only gay guys who ever get news stories, blowing guys in bathrooms or former prostitutes turned politicians? Most gay guys I know, are sitting home with their partner and watching Americas Next Top Model, not running around and getting anal warts.

This guy needs sme serious counseling. Sounds like he hates himself for the acts that he did as a teen, causing himself now to run on a platform of hate. We all know, or most of us believe that there is no "ex- gay" and he is obviously ( to me anyway) still suffering from ego-dystonic self hatred and projecting it on other homosexuals. The point of talking about anal warts and anal gonorrhea and anal cancer has nothing whatsoever to do with this man’s concern over gay men's, or anyone else's, health.
The sole purpose of this tirade, and the compassion troll tirades of the likes of Cameron, LaBarbara, Perkins, etc., was to directly associate gay men with anal sex in the minds of those who read his blather. He wants people to immediately think of dirty assholes when they hear the word gay or homosexual. It's the tried and true tactic of defining gay people exclusively by a sex act that many consider revolting (strangely enough even straight people who regularly engage in anal sex find male/male anal sex to be totally different and totally disgusting, due apparently to the misconception that male anuses are entirely different to female anuses).
I'll give the guy credit for one thing, he at least limits his discourse to topics upon which he is clearly an expert; ASSHOLES!
