Sir Paul McCartney to Pete Doherty: John Lennon Wasn't Gay

Doherty_mccartney

Babyshambles singer and tabloid troublemaker Pete Doherty interviewed Sir Paul McCartney for the UK's Observer over the weekend and discussed, among other things, the sex life of the Beatles. McCartney said that although the tours got crazy sexually, he never witnessed any of John Lennon's rumored dalliances with men:

"There was an element of Satyricon, although that overstates the case a bit. But there were certainly some elements that you wouldn't talk about in the newspapers. Privately, I could tell a tale or two [laughs]. The funny thing is when later the rumour came out that John was gay, I said: 'I don't think so.' I mean, I don't know what he did when he went to New York, but certainly not in any of my experiences. We used to sleep together, top and tail it, you know. I always used to say: 'Come on, I would have spotted something here.' But what I spotted was completely the opposite. It was just chicks, chicks, chicks."

  1. Maybe he just didn't fancy you, Paul.

  2. Paul Mccartney has always been a big Miss Priss. This is just more evidence of that.

  3. Boy, no one's mentioned this "sordid" tale in a long time. Rumors planted by Bob Dylan and Elton John, and pimped up by Rolling Stone magazine and playboy thirty years ago, and then hinted at to refuse John entry to the US by the Nixon administration are still getting airplay? The world is a very different place now. There are plenty of out musicians. JL was always visibly upset when men fancied him or hit on him--he hated it. No friend of gays I suspect despite liking Brian Epstein (one of his alleged lovers). Paul, of course, may be trying to distance himself from gay rumors because of his pending divorce. He and John were also pegged as lovers at one point.

  4. There is a pretty well known and documented incident where John Lennon beat the shit out of a DJ, IIRC from Cincinatti maybe, for just asking him about a trip that just he and Brian Epstein took to Germany. It seemed like a case of he doth protest too much, methinks.

  5. Regardless, of McCartney's divorce he still has nothing to lose. Some people behave as if everybody is secretly gay, today. Well, they aren't. And why should you care so much? The fact is that all rumors are just rumors without concrete proof as to otherwise, even when it concerns celebrities.

  6. Not fancying the boys? Elements of Satyricon? Has Paul ever watched that movie?
