Parents of Hate Crime Victim Submit YouTube Debate Question
As a follow-up to the post below, here's another question submitted to the upcoming Republican YouTube debate (I featured one from former pro baseball player Billy Bean yesterday) by Lynn and Pat Mulder.
Lynn and Pat are the stepfather and birth mother of Ryan Keith Skipper. I posted about his brutal murder several times last spring.
Hopefully these questions will be aired. That will be far more important than hearing the lame-ass GOP answer that's sure to follow. The debate takes place on November 28.

I'm not sure why, though there really doesn't need to be a "why", but this question had a profound impact on me.
Never in their lives, I'm sure, would these parents ever have imagined their son would have been murdered. And murdered simply because he was who he was.
How awful is it that greiving parents have to pose a question such as this to someone who may be charged with protecting all Americans?
The underlying question really isn't how will they help protect this group of Americans, but *will* they protect them.
How awful that greiving parents even have to ask this question.

short of declaring the bible hate speech, I am not sure what a president can do... even the new testament calls gays "worthy of death" in contradiction to the "love thy neighbor" creed. As we know most people find it easier to hate than to love so if it is written in the "holy" book in black and white, what are they to do??? Religious texts are the problem and not their alleged misinterpretation.

It sure would be nice if the questions were asked, but, i doubt if they will, two areas the GOP will not talk about publicly, unless to bash and scare voters are gay rights, and the rights of people of color.

Well I think to declare in quotes "misinterpretation" lends the thought that it is what it is and there can be no discussion or misinterpretation. I, for one, do believe that "worthy of death" needs to be taken into context for the entire passage and not just one sentence.
Heck, even the second amendment to the Constitution (which I think is pretty darned clear) is often blamed for being misinterpreted by both sides.
But the bigger question is what can a president do? Well, for one, use the bully pulpit for tolerance instead of intolerance.
I'm sure it's no mistake that hate crimes is up and acceptance of individuals (be they gay or immigrants)is down.
The president is charged with leading, and in this area, he, or she, certainly should be tasked to, in all areas.
