Scott Caan "Deeply Apologetic" for Gay Slur
Scott Caan issued an apology to TMZ for his "faggot" slur hurled as TMZ's photographers captured him leaving the Newsroom Cafe on Robertson Boulevard in West Hollywood.
Following the posting of the video, GLAAD issued a statement calling on the actor to apologize.
Said Caan in a statement to TMZ: "I am sorry for using such a derogatory word. I was being harassed by a paparazzi, and unfortunately, the word slipped out. I don't ever condone the use of that word and I deeply apologize to anyone whom I may have offended."
Caan's publicist told GLAAD: "Mr. Caan is deeply apologetic about his actions and that we do not take this lightly."
And, in case you have an interest in what got the actor riled up in the first place, here's Caan eating his cheeseburger.

I can't get offended when an asshole photographer makes stars pissed in order to get the "shot" or "news" out of it...not their fault...i would be pissed and i like to use words when i get mad ...

Why were they following HIM anyway? Do photos of nobodies sell?
Posted by: Trey | Nov 16, 2007 11:08:28 AM
After getting to see the actual video, doesn't it seem like Caan, aside from just using a really tired-ass word, really handled himself rather well? I'd back him up, NO problem.

There is no excuse for anyone to use the word "faggot." Period.

Don’t the photographs know you’re not suppose to photograph the queen while she’s eating?
That said, there are lots of others words he could of used and I hope he learns from this incident.

I'm so sick of these narcissistic actors' "slips" of the tongue revealing their truly homophobic natures. I say bullshit to your apology. NO MORE! DONE! I don't care how cute or hot or 'v-shaped' you are, you are still an asshole.
No more forgiveness, now fucking grow up.

Sorry my gay hairy ass. Scott Caan got excatly what he wanted, free press. What an easy or sleaszy way to get your picture and name back into the public. Say something totally vile and 24 hours later make some bulshit apology. Remember Michael Richards rant and rave last year. The following week the one of the seasons of Seinfiled came out on DVD and there was a 75% increase in sales compared to the previous release.
Sorry Scott apology not accepted

I understand slip ups. The man was lunchin' at the Newsroom Cafe in WEST HOLLYWOOD. I'm sure he's cool with gay people. All is forgiven.

Hell, I'm gay and i use the "faggot" word when I get pissed. Mostly I use it towards the gays but still. Get over it. I'm pretty sure Scott Caan isn't a homophobe. People need to loosen up.

How embarassing. The Newsroom sucks! I would never be caught eating in such a faggotty place.......

He was obviously being harrassed by photographers. Cut the guy some slack. And so what if he DID mean it? What do I care what some D list celebrity thinks of me? I'm much more concerned about why a large part of our government hates us.

I know him and I swear to all things Madonna that he isn't a homophobe.

And your point is PP? Are you that desperate to be "liked" by the wannabe stubby spawn of a used-to-be actor?
Posted by: rudy | Nov 16, 2007 12:29:07 PM
I just don't think apologies containing the phrase "may have offended" or "may have hurt" are real apologies.
Posted by: Marc | Nov 16, 2007 12:50:24 PM
No, Rudy. Scott already seems to like me just fine.
My point is that I am acquainted with him, have seen him interact with lots of gay people and have never once seen even a shred of homophobia. Whenever I've run into him in public he is friendly and respectful. He seems completely comfortable with gay people.

it's hilarious, because i assumed he was gay. he's lunching with a guy in l.a. very tough. haha

Here's a shocker -- people who uses the word 'gay' and 'fag' and 'faggot' are not immediately raving homophobes. This is a non-story.
Posted by: Gregoire | Nov 16, 2007 1:00:45 PM
Uh, isn't Scott Caan gay?
Posted by: Tread | Nov 16, 2007 1:01:43 PM
Never heard of him, but, his vile comments are just that, vile. I don't care if he is considered "hot" by some, or has never been heard of as a homophobe, many of the louts who have screeched out anti-gay slurs have had folks, gay, come out and defend them. I realize that in this society that many are not quick witted enough or have a vocabulary to express anger without slurs, but, this is unacceptable, as its still a slur that is meant to demean.
And, why is it that some get a slide on this sort of slur, and others are demonized? Can't have it both ways, call them all out and demand respect.

Listen, when you go into show business and garner a lot or a little fame, being stalked by paparazzi is part of the game. He wasn't being harrassed, he was getting exactly part of what he signed up for. All celebrities sign up for it. So he needs to stop making an excuse that his poor little feelings were hurt or his day wasn't as smooth as he would've like because of the photogs.
Using the word faggot doesn't automatically make you a homophobe. It makes you ignorant and unoriginal. And it gives an insight to the hateful element of your personality.
Posted by: Joe | Nov 16, 2007 1:15:54 PM
PP, Did you read Jano's post? Whether Stumpy is a homophobe or not is immaterial. He used a homophobic slur as an intended insult. Ever consider that Stumpy "likes [you] just fine" because he perceives you to be a good little fa**ot? Hey, perhaps his perception, not mine. You usually display more cojones and insight.
Posted by: rudy | Nov 16, 2007 1:18:36 PM
Uh, what Joe said. ^5 brother.
Posted by: rudy | Nov 16, 2007 1:20:22 PM
Don't want to be photographed? Then what the fuck are you doing on Robertson?
I find it so amusing when d-list actors pretend that they hate being photographed...

Well the good news is Isaiah is breathing a huge sigh of relief, because even though gays may want to split hairs on who gets to call who fag, straights don't see it that way.
The more this little video gets played and straights see that nothing happens to Caan, then that in turn absolves Isaiah in the long run.
I'm personally glad becuase it highlights the inconsistency in the gay community, the distinctins based on race and sexual attractivenss and it shows straights what they can and cannot get away with. And believe me, they will exploit this to high heaven.
And good for them...
In this instance, we get what we deserve.
Have any of you noticed now that all a straight has to do is issue a half assed apology and then he just moves on?
I, as a gay man, realize that very few gay men actually deserve respect, simply because very few demand it. Sad.
If you want to know why, then re-read half of these posts.
Faggots.

To all those holier-than-thou homosexuals on here - are you going to tell me you've never called someone a bitch at some point? Last time I heard this was a derogatory word as well yet a favorite among gays. Sometimes a word is just a word.
