  1. You gotta love a guy who gets along "swimmingly" with Russian clowns.

  2. Without huge oil revenues Norway's social welfare system would collapse, and they have a big problem with organized crime. I think the scene was cut largely because it has nothing to do with health care and more to do with prisons.

Again, if Europeans do health care better, they can build hospitals and sell health insurance here in the US, essentially putting US citizens on par with their own, but for some reason they don't. Why not?

  3. JGL is always a treat, and major props to Sandra Oh for backing the wgaa.

This is the kind of celebrity news I LOVE to see on Towleroad. Tasteful and intelligent.

  4. Is it just me, or does Joseph Gordon-Leavitt look amazingly like Heath Ledger. I swear they could be brothers. It kills me that the little kid from 3rd Rock would grow up into someone so goddamned sexy.

  5. On JGL - Sam, the "swimmingly" part cracked me up to. Dom, I am with you - who would have thought; he is gorgeous!

  6. It's a little more complicated than just hopping across the pound and building a few hospitals. The US has a rather large, complicated, and convoluted healthcare system that will take many, many, many years to fix. No one will be making any money off of that particular endeavor.

  7. andy,

gotta love you. these vids are excellent.

jgl is smokin' hot, chris dodd is whip-smart, sandra oh just grew by leaps and bounds in my estimation, and those crazy, crazy scandinavians.... see what happens when you separate religion from state affairs. logic will inevetibally ensue.

@ ANON, the solution to the health care crisis in this country is not to look at the european model. this country is far away from the civilized social democracies of the europeans. the practicable solution is to proscribe the major pharma's from the legislative process and roll universal health care into medicare. hey, medicare has been working quite well for quite some time.

  9. Strangely, that cut scene was included in Canadian DVD release.

I guess it's just not that scary to us.

  10. Are there only white people in Norway? I never saw a single minority, even in the city shots of people walking down the street.

  11. Americans can't accept the fact that some nations are better than them in a variety of ways. And when that is proven by statistics or expert committees from the UN or other intergovernmental organizations they either ignore it or make some sad attempt to save face by digressing from the proof of what another nation does better and pointing out that they're powerful and can blow things up.
