Jeanrobertroad.jpg Survivor winner Todd Herzog talks to AfterElton about his win and certain homophobic contestants: "Jean-Robert was really, really, really homophobic. But I knew that by letting the girls know [I’m gay] they could feel comfortable around me and that I could make a tighter alliance with them. With Amanda, Courtney, Peih-Gee, and Denise being in the finals with me, I knew I needed to take the girls because the girls feel more comfortable around the gay guy. He had a lot of opinions on it, saying, 'It's wrong. It's a choice,' things like that. But I think getting to know me really changed his mind quite a bit, because he told me that out of a lot of gay guys he's met, I surprised him. He'd always thought that the gay culture was to sleep around and drink and party and do drugs, and he was shocked that that's just not me."

road.jpg Scientists on the brink of creating entirely new life forms based on entirely artificial DNA: "Some experts are worried that a few maverick companies are already gaining monopoly control over the core 'operating system' for artificial life and are poised to become the Microsofts of synthetic biology. That could stifle competition, they say, and place enormous power in a few people's hands. 'We're heading into an era where people will be writing DNA programs like the early days of computer programming, but who will own these programs?' asked Drew Endy, a scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology."

road.jpg LIAR: Lieberman endorses John McCain. But what did he say back during his 2006 reelection campaign? “I want Democrats to be back in the majority in Washington and elect a Democratic president in 2008.”

Blackholeblastroad.jpg Massive black hole seen blasting a nearby galaxy: "'We've seen many jets produced by black holes, but this is the first time we've seen one punch into another galaxy like we're seeing here,' said Dan Evans, a scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and leader of the study. 'This jet could be causing all sorts of problems for the smaller galaxy it is pummeling.' Jets from super massive black holes produce high amounts of radiation, especially high-energy X-rays and gamma-rays, which can be lethal in large quantities. The combined effects of this radiation and particles traveling at almost the speed of light could severely damage the atmospheres of planets lying in the path of the jet. For example, protective layers of ozone in the upper atmosphere of planets could be destroyed."

Biddellroad.jpg Evan Biddell wins Canadian Project Runway: "The end is here, and so am I. Nobody left on this runway but myself. I just had to say goodbye to my last two competitors, and now the judges are telling me they want to see what else I can do. They believe I have a strong point of view, and an innate sense of style. When they found out I had never built a collection before, that was the moment I felt I might take the prize. I could feel the judges simultaneously think “How the f**K did he do that?” It felt awesome to know you are exactly where you are supposed to be. To be honest with you, fashion is what I know. I love playing with the shapes of a female body, wrapping her up in rich detail, following the curves a woman, using her body as the blueprint and working around it. It just gets me off!"

  1. The Canadian winner of Project Runway (a show I haven't seen in several years) reminds me of a much cuter version of Jay, the big guy who won the first or second season.

  2. Thanks for spoiling PR:Canada. I have been watching the show on YouTube but hadn't caught up with the airings yet. You did so well with keeping your Survivor story spoiler free yesterday, shame you couldn't do the same on this. Is it just because it is a foreign show?

  3. Jesus Christ, I have to agree. I've been waiting all day for a torrent to appear for Project Runway Canada. Thanks ever so much for spoiling it for me! You're usually much better about these things.

  4. Sorry to add to the pile-on, but I've been waiting with the others for the torrents on Project Runway Canada. Dropped in here for my usual news and there was, flat-out, no way to avoid that monster spoiler.

Bummer, too, because I thought Biddell was such an arrogant tool.

  5. The show already aired, guys. You can't expect people to avoid talking about things forever. If you were that concerned, why weren't you staying away from the Internet in general?

Oh my god, nobody tell me who won Super Bowl XXXIX! I still have it on TiVo!

  6. Actually, it didn't air last night if you're in the US and watch on the internet. Which you would have known, Scott, if you'd bothered to read the other posts. Thanks for the spoiler, Towleroad!

  7. RE Survivor and Jean-Robert - The thing that always baffles me about bigotry is the ease with which otherwise intelligent people can utterly suspend common sense. As if millions of people in every possible demographic could all exhibit the same behaviors and engage in the same activities. I realize that this is part of the very nature of prejudice, but I still find it amazing.

  8. lieberman, that whiny, geriatric howdy doody, makes me ill. he is officially a traitor to the democratic party.

what is in that delusional, egotistical charlie brown-like head of his? does he hope that if mccain wins the repug nod, he might be tapped as mccain's running mate? what a fu*king loser.

  9. Not everyone's in the US, Mike.

  10. Why shouldn't Lieberman turn against the Democrats? They threw him under the bus long ago, remember. He owes them nothing.

  11. boo for a double dose of spoilers, towleroad! :( i sorta found out the results of Survivor yesterday when i saw Todd's pictures on a post, watched the episode today and came on to towleroad coz i thought the coast was clear.. and then you had to spoil Project Runway Canada :(

  12. Geez...If I don't want a show spoiled, I don't go on the net...I had taped ANTM last week, and I knew that if I went on the net I was running a risk. Sho nuff...
As far as Bidell being arrogant, I'll take his brand of arrogance over Lucian's anyday. As became obvious during the finale, his demeanor was a cover for his insecurities about being inexperienced. Lucian, on the other hand, oozed superiority and contempt.
(Loved the fact that Iman wore a Lucian dress as she voted for Bidell.Oops, another spoiler...)

  13. Aside from the spoilers... That story about the conservative Princeton student really sticks with me, for some reason. Of course I'm thrilled to have such an idiot exposed. And I love how the threatening email he received said he wouldn't "live to see the light of day" - that particular language makes no sense in the situation, it just doesn't add up that some horny liberal would say that to someone who wanted to stop the flow of free condoms. To me, that threat clearly came from the mind of a deluded, repressed kid with a martyr complex.

Or a lover spurned. Dick denial destroys rational thought, to be sure.

Another thought: castigating a pop culture news blog for reporting current events in a timely fashion is reasoning of the highest order. Perhaps one (or several) may want to revisit one's personal pop culture blackout policy.

  15. Thanks for the link!

  16. I'm glad Biddell won. Both he and Lucian were so arrogant but Biddell was in a cheeky way I loved. Plus, his clothes were exciting and original.
