Sun Halo Captured in Key West

Halo

Folks in Key West were treated to a rare atmospheric phenomenon yesterday afternoon when a strong halo appeared to encircle the sun. It was caught on camera by Timothy Cox at the Naval Air Station there. The effect is caused by ice crystals in cirrus clouds high in the atmosphere.

Similar events involving light pillars can happen at sunrise or sunset.

I'm sure fundamentalist Christians will take that as a sign from God to try and pass anti-gay legislation on Key West too.

I love the strategic placement of the American flag right in the middle there. Has America now invaded and occupied Sun halos as well?
