Apollo 14 Veteran Claims Earth Contact with Aliens

Dr. Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the moon and the record-holder (with Alan Shepard) for the longest moon walk, claimed on the Kerrang! radio show that Earth has been visited by extraterrestrials and that the government has engaged in a six-decade cover-up to keep it quiet:

Mitchell"Dr Mitchell, 77, said during a radio interview that sources at the space agency who had had contact with aliens described the beings as 'little people who look strange to us.' He said supposedly real-life ET's were similar to the traditional image of a small frame, large eyes and head. Chillingly, he claimed our technology is 'not nearly as sophisticated' as theirs and 'had they been hostile', he warned 'we would be been gone by now'".

Said Mitchell: "I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real. It's been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it's leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it. I've been in military and intelligence circles, who know that beneath the surface of what has been public knowledge, yes - we have been visited. Reading the papers recently, it's been happening quite a bit. This is really starting to open up. I think we're headed for real disclosure and some serious organisations are moving in that direction."

NASA released a statement denying Mitchell's claims: "NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe. Dr Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinions on this issue."

  6. thank you, Emily. now goodnight, and have a pleasant tomorrow. :-)

i've never quite understood the cover-up angle. what would there be to be gained by maintaining the secret? wouldn't all parties involved be eager to cash in on the financial/power opportunities of first contact? not to mention the good it could do for humanity.

hm, unless the catholic church were behind the cover-up. that would make sense.

anyway, hardly believable, but intriguing/baffling coming from a man of his credentials.

  10. The government that is supposed to be successfully covering this up for the past 60 years is the same government that pays $400 for toilet seats, tells us to "duck and cover" to avoid nuclear fallout, and designs a plane that won't fly.

    I don't think so.

  11. I agree, I don't see the point in a 60 year long cover up. I'm sure we wouldn't be informed right away, but 60 years? that is a lifetime.

  12. Well, they have to cover it up, because, you know, aliens make you gay.

  13. aliens screwed the apes and created man, and neither the church nor the government can handle sharing that evolutionary truth.

  14. If the government could coordinate a long-term coverup like this, you'd think they'd have been able to plant some weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to help Bush out.

  15. The cover up is easy to figure out. If suddenly the government admitted they had been in contact with aliens, what do you supposed that would do to the christian belief, and all other religions? Nothing in the bible points to other beings, and if there are other beings, god would know, right? It's about control and if the government admitted anything about an alien cover up, the government would lose control of the people. It might be the best thing that could happen to the world. I'm not saying this man is telling the complete truth, but there are other astronauts who claim to have seen unexplained unidentified flying objects.

  17. Organized religion is evil enough to be in on a conspiracy with those in power in the government to surpress this sort of info.

Not that I believe in little green men, but it's highly likely, since if something like this came out, all religions would be basically screwed.

But then again, the government is so inept (Katrina, anyone?), how in the hell could they keep something like this a secret for 5 years, much less 60?

    I want to believe...(i just can't)

  20. You realize that the British government released its UFO files as did the Russians?
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1952867/British-Government-releases-UFO-files.html
    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos/

Why is it so hard to believe that there is life on other planets? People (in this case humans) are very arrogant in believing in their self-importance.

As for the government lying to the public not seeming realistic, are you serious? Hello?! Bush Administration? You know the current government leadership that refused to accept a report from the EPA that blamed human-caused pollution for Global Warming or the that Global Warming will cause deaths through plagues, floods, droughts, etc.?

Governments lie, cheat, steal, and murder all the time. Why wouldn't they cover up something that would threaten the status quo? If a government could plot the assassination of another country's leader, why not cover up something that might cause massive unrest?

How much trouble do the fundamentalists have with dealing evolution? Those people believe the planet Earth is only five to six thousand years old. Others burn Harry Potter books because they "preach" witchcraft! Some Muslims riot when a cartoon of their Prophet is drawn.

Some people just can't handle facts that contradict their world view. Look at the idiots who still believe in white supremacy and can't accept science that disproves their view. There is no such thing as race, biologically speaking. But people need to believe in their inherent superiority.

This week, the former Bosnian Serb leader, Radovan Karadzic, who ordered the genocide of hundreds of thousands of Bosnians Muslims. Having people believe that they are special is an important technique of leaders. Karadzic convinced his people to butcher and rape hundreds of thousands people by telling his fellow Serbs that their neighbors were subhumans.

At the start of the Cold War, what benefit would it have been for the U.S. or other governments to tell the public about aliens? What benefit would it provide? How much trouble would it cause the status quo? A status quo that was already in turmoil.

Again, the U.S. government has done a lot of shady things from testing LSD on soldiers to deliberately exposing Americans to plutonium. The latter took place in the 1950s and just came to light recently.

  21. The problem here is that we are told to believe in two extraordinary things:

    1) That extraterrestrials have visited the earth.
    2) That we don't know about it because of a government conspiracy.

Alas, both would require a great deal of evidence to be believable, and yet we have none at all. For example, aliens would need to cooperate with a multi-government conspiracy of silence in order for this work (how responsible of them!). If they wanted to, these aliens could have simply hijacked our TV system and broadcast that they were here. Somehow, though, they crash land at military bases and are never heard from again. Aliens are hardly alone, too, for we have ghost sightings, angels, the Virgin Mary to contend with, along with Yeti, Bigfeet, lake monsters, bogeymen, baby eating dingos, honest used car salesmen, gay-friendly evangelicals and other mythical creatures, large and small. Can't all be true, can it?

  22. Actually, the dingo thing is largely accepted as true. They're mean little bastards.
Eerily enough, however, many astronauts (including Aldrin and Armstrong) have supposedly claimed they've witnessed UFOs while on missions.

  25. Why would any religion be affected by it? Does it say in the bible or the Coran that we're the only ones? So what if there's other people? Those who believe in God, Alah or whoever can carry one believing happily and those who don't, well... not.
    Whatever...

  26. A message to the "true believers": yes, extra-terrestrial higher intelligence exists, and they know about us.

  27. Is it just me, or does the NASA statement seem like a carefully-parsed, "neither confirm nor deny" kind of answer? Notice that they don't flat out deny that any fact stated by Dr. Mitchell is true or his claim that "we have been visited." All they say is that NASA doesn't "track" aliens, that they don't participate in any "cover up," and that they do not share his "opinions." Weird!
