road.jpg Illinois Governor Blagojevich tries to fill Obama's Senate seat: "U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) said in a statement this afternoon that the Senate will not seat anyone Gov. Rod Blagojevich chooses to fill Illinois' vacant Senate post, amid word that the governor is set to name former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris. The statement also is signed by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, who has repeatedly urged Blagojevich not to name a replacement for the seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama."

Cooperroad.jpg Choire Sicha asks Anderson Cooper in the L.A. Times if he has any plans to offer 'opinionated' perspectives like some of his fellow anchors: "I have no plans to, no. I think those people are really good at what they do. Rachel Maddow is an incredible talent -- she's funny, and smart, obviously well researched on subjects. I'm just not interested as a viewer in listening to anchors' opinions. It seems like there's an awful lot of yelling, and this year yelling's been replaced by sarcasm and snark- iness."

road.jpg Push for domestic partner recognition NY Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell interviews with David Paterson for Clinton Senate seat: " To say Mr. O’Donnell, known for his active support of gay rights issues, including same-sex marriage, was overly optimistic about his chances would be a stretch. He put his odds of getting the seat at about one in 10, or 'about the same as the population of gay people in the world.' But Mr. O’Donnell did offer that he believes the governor has yet to settle on a final choice."

road.jpg FDA approves drug that thickens and grows longer eyelashes: "Latisse is a once-daily prescription treatment that is applied to the base of the upper eyelash with a sterile, single-use-per-eye disposable applicator. Once treatment is stopped, eyelashes will gradually return to where they were prior to treatment. Allergan said it estimates global peak sales of Latisse solution could top $500 million a year."

His attacker – Neil Bibby, 22, of Bramble Court, Penwortham, Preston – was sentenced to 200 hours' unpaid work, a three-month weekend curfew, and ordered to pay £2,000 compensation by Preston Magistrates after he pleaded guilty to assault."

road.jpg The Killers to record with Paul McCartney? "According to UK tabloid The Sun, the former Beatle watched the band perform at London's Royal Albert Hall last month and then told Brandon Flowers and co that he'd love to record with them. The paper quotes an unnamed 'source close to McCartney' as saying: 'Paul had a great time at the gig. He loves their music and their great attitude. He was as pleased to meet them as they were to meet him but they were gobsmacked when he said he'd love to do something with them music-wise.'"

  2. I agree with Anderson Cooper. I turn to his show because it isn't full of snarky bullying or sarcasm. And his show seems to have a sense of humor about it - even when his team is making fun of him (especially by showing the shots of Cooper shirtless with Michael Phelps).

I like to make up my own mind and Bill O'Reilly doesn't allow viewers to do that very much. And nor does his cute, liberal doppleganger, Rachel Maddow (even though I agree with more of what she says than O'Reilly). So, I refuse to watch them.

I'll get my real news from Anderson Cooper, NBC Nightly News and my fake news from Jon Stewart, thanks!

  3. Kudos to Anderson Cooper. I've all but stopped watching Maddow and Olberman since the election. I... just... don't... care... about... opinions. I agree with Damien, Give me the news. Period.

And still, there is a Sarah Palin note... other name considerations "Torque" "Tug" "Tilapia", "Twiki"... I could go on, you betcha.

At least there is a shirtless Royal to round out the day. And GROOMED at that! Certainly shaved his days in his company!

  4. "Perverted Catholic criminals."?? Talk about a bigoted headline! So, being Catholic makes you a criminal? What fun!

  5. Anon, there is this thing called a "link" that one should click, after which there is thing called "reading" that one should do.

If you'd attempted these and not trolled about with your panties in a knot, you'd have quickly cottoned on to the author's intent.

In other words, get a grip.

  6. re: Prince Harry... They all lose their looks quickly after 25 or so(royals), if he inherited more of his mother's genes he may get to keep his hair. Good luck Harry. His uncles where hot for a few minutes in their days too.

  7. Don't be so quick to count out Danny O'Donnell. Next to Caroline, he could be the biggest campaign fund-raiser in the running, which is a key factor in the Democrat's keeping the seat in 2010. With his sister fundraising/campaigning for him, who knows?

  8. I agree with Cooper that Maddow is really talented, but I'm glad he's sticking to reporting instead of commentating. There are so many commentators in cable news already, and I think Rachel is the only one who doesn't seem unbearably full of herself and loud mouth. I guess commentating attracts people like that, you have to be full of yourself to think your opinions are so much more important than everybody else's and that the world needs to see you braying them and getting in guest's faces with them every night. From what I've seen Rachel is a lot better than the rest, though, so she's a welcome addition.

  9. Miss Cooper sure is pissy.

Of course, he refuses to come out and admit:

    1. he's gay
    2. he's a Republican

She really needs to STFU. I never understood his appeal. Mostly, older straight women seem to dig him.

  10. OMG! Please tell me you're lying about #2, Vicodaniel. I can deal with anything except that...

  11. "Sarah Palin is a grandmother now"

    That made my entire year.

  12. At least Maddow is out of the closet. I'll take a snarky out role model than a closeted, though talented, newsman any day of the week.

  13. AC's not a republican. A website by someone angry about taxes leaked his and a whole lot of other people's records who had owed some back taxes and along with a lot of property and financial information it listed him as a registered democrat (the right wing blogs were all over it). His former longtime boyfriend also made fairly substantial democratic contributions while they were together http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=&zip=10011&last=ELZY&first=STEVEN

Years ago Anderson made a tiny $250 donation to the doomed republican congressional campaign of an out gay, gay marriage supporting guy from his college crew club. People sometimes try to make out that makes him a republican.

  14. There are worse things that Anderson Cooper could do than being a republican! However, he is simply stated a very good journalist. And as for Sarah Palin, she is a hot grandmother and NOT going away! Trust me, Palin will NOT just go away.

She is not Dan Quayle! Tina Fey's career will be over before Palin's will.

  15. Blagojevich represents everything that is crooked politics... and he doesn't show even a hint of remorse

Posted by: coffee fiend | Dec 30, 2008 11:55:32 PM

  16. RB,

i thought that after the repug debacle, you would have disappeared into the wood-work. but, just like a cockroach, you will survive a nuclear winter.

as to the gov. "helmet-head" blagojevich fiasco, i can only see his ploy as a last-gasp, morally bankrupt, venal, self serving act of a corrupt politician pitting a hapless black ex-politician, roland burris, against the prez-elect and the whole of the dem party. meanwhile, rep. bobby rush is invoking racial hatred by suggesting that not seating burris is tantamount to a "hanging or lynching" of the appointee.

give me a fucking break. that kind of false accusation allowed the nonentity, clarence thomas, to replace the monumental thurgood marshall.
