Astleycobain

Here's some [Rick] Roll-on in case the smell of teen spirit is just a bit too strong. The mash-up that's burning up the YouTube charts, AFTER THE JUMP....

  1. This isn't very good.

  2. It doesn't really work that well for most of the song. But it's pretty funny when it hits the chorus!

  3. Good video production in making two radically different songs mesh (somewhat) coherently but...

brain cells screamed as they died.

  4. Sad to say this, but I kind of like this...lol. But then again, I like odd music mash-ups. :-)

  5. This is just amazing.

  6. Amusing...

But doesn't match the artistry of DJ EarWorm's recent Annie Lennox collaboration.

  7. In about 20 years when VH1 is doing the inevitable "I Love the Naughties" series, two of the biggest WTF? moments will be mash-ups and rick-rolling.

And Michael Ian Black still won't be funny.

  8. I unapologetically like both Nirvana and Rick Astley. This seems like just taking things to their (il)logical end. :) (I love imagining Kurt and Rick as a couple!)

BTW, "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" and "Amazing Grace" are also transposable, i.e. the lyrics from each works in each other's melody. Try it.

  9. In a way, isn't all this just more proof that "Never Gonna Give You Up" is one of the truly great pop songs of all time?

  10. Interesting idea, but horrible execution. Smells Like Teen Bootie is much better:

  13. Sucks.

  14. Painful to listen to. It might be enjoyable if the person who created the mash up took a little extra time to pitch correct either of the tracks so that they were either in the same key or mixed harmonically...

  15. Ow, I think my cerebellum just fractured! This is pretty sucky. It times out OK but the songs are in different keys, so the vocal never matches the music. Too bad, I was hoping for something fun, but this is just too awful to enjoy.

  16. I thought it was kind of interesting. They turned an upbeat pop-song into something dark and brooding. I'm curious how they were able to isolate Rick's voice from the original song?
