Watch: NY GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Carl Paladino Expresses Opposition to Park51, Gay Marriage, Abortion

This afternoon, CNN's Rick Sanchez talked to Carl Paladino, the teabagger extremist who won the GOP gubernatorial primary in New York over Rick Lazio.

Sanchez asked him about his position on gay marriage: "No."

On civil unions: "It’s fine, I think if the definition of unions is what we have right now I’m fine with that, I have no anxiety over it. If you carry it further into,"

Most of the following video is on Paladino's opposition to the Park51 community center. Paladino was also grilled on abortion, which he opposes, even in the case of rape.

In related news, I neglected to mention this morning that New York marriage equality foe Hiram Monserrate failed in his state senate bid.

  1. Actually, Monseratte--although a former state senator--was running for the Assembly this time around. But he did lose.

  2. Espada is terrible.

But he actually was in favor of gay marriage.

    Hopefully Rivera will be too.

  3. OMG he's against gay marriage but for gay unions. Hmmm... are you sure he's a republican cause Obama isn't for gay marriage and the majority of the elected officials, republican and democrat, aren't for gay marriage either.

  4. Please NY...please please please do NOT elect this man your governer. The black eye from the Park51 debacle is still swelling..dont let it get any worse.

  5. "the majority of the elected officials, republican and democrat, aren't for gay marriage either"

Well, except his Democratic opponent in the general election, Andrew Cuomo, supports marriage equality and plans to make it a priority, so NYers have a real choice here. (In other words, it's not always about Obama.)

  6. What a pig. Porno paledino is a disgrace to this country...a normative claim...because one must realize that even a lying cheating degenerate can prosper.

  7. This is why the teabag movement is so FOS. They say they want big government out of our lives, but they are all in favor of the government regulating morality.

No big government in the context of healthcare, unemployment, social security, or any other social safety net. When it comes to dictating morality big government is just fine with them.

The decision in November is a hard one, a choice between evil, eviler, and psycho evil.

  9. One of the reasons New York State is a mess is because people care more about the "ground zero mosque" than they do about the real pressing problems this state faces - like its fiscal disarray. It is unfortunate that the state of the state won't matter as much as abortion, gay marriage and the mosque.

  10. Um, hold on. He didn't say he was for civil unions. He said that unions as in what we have now are ok. Which is pretty much nothing.

  15. Mosque, can be taken away using eminent domain. Abortion, women have to have the baby no matter what the circumstances. No gay marriage, civil unions are OK. What really disturbs me about Carl Paladino's positions is the women having their rights taken away, and dictated to by a Man...if he is successful it is a return to before Roe v. Wade. Women especially should take notice, or learn to use birth control! He is on the extreme right, and a lawyer to boot; he can keep this in the courts indefinitely.

  16. Is this guy actually electable?

You know, I've been thinking about running for office in a few years... Maybe I should start sending my racist e-mails now. Horsefucking e-mails, too.

  17. In any other year I would say he is unelectable, but I grew up in upstate New York and local politics in Binghamton and Buffalo and Utica are dominated by just this sort of "made" guy. If he can swing enough protest votes upstate to cancel out New York City (and maybe siphon off the loon anti-mosque city voters) this guy could win. It is actually conceivable, especially if he can paint Cuomo as the establishment candidate.

People underestimate the rage against Albany, which has been corrupt for years and years and years.

If he DOES get elected I have one eye on the Canadian border.

  19. Will the media ask what's his position on beastiality?

That is, a top or bottom?

  20. WTF?? I am so glad I no longer live in New York. Why do these Teabaggers want to force women to have unwanted children using the argument that the child will be adopted? How many children has Paladino adopted? Does he have a daughter who's been raped? Did he demand that she have the child? Who in the hell does he think he is, trying to force his holier-than-thou morality on the rest of the state?

    Posted by: mad1026 | Sep 16, 2010 2:26:53 PM

  21. I firmly believe, by his statements that I personally heard, that Mr Paladino ran for and won the Republican Nomination in order to GUARANTEE the election of the Democratic nominee. No one, no matter how bigoted his personal predudices(sp?) and beliefs may be, there is no way that any husband or father, under any circumstances, would force his wife or child to carry a rapist's child to full term. But I readily believe that a man as mentally sick as Mr. Paladino would force his daughter to carry his insestues pregnancy to full term.

Do we really need someone as cruel as Mr. Paladino any where near any government position?

  22. As there where TWO; That is TWO as in "2", Mosques IN the Twin Towers to serve the many Muslim employees working in the Twin Towers at the time the planes crashed into them, what the H??LL is all this nonsense about a Mosque a couple of blocks away? You stupid Christians get nuttier and nuttier every day.

  23. On civil unions: "It’s fine, I think if the definition of unions is what we have right now I’m fine with that, I have no anxiety over it. If you carry it further into,"

Uh... NY doesn't have civil unions. So, he's "fine" with nothing.

[sounds like the guy is clueless]
