The recorded images of the attack show a crowd beating, stabbing and jeering at a 25-year-old African American man Sunday night on Boystown’s busy Halsted Street."

  1. WBEZ has a much better article about the Boystown situation. I think once you read the article there you'll see that the "rift" is a matter of opinion and the issue is much deeper. The Center on Halsted is taking a lot of heat for their homeless youth program.

  2. Wow who was the guy rapping freestyle in that Aladdin 4th of July video? Very entertaining and nice voice!

  3. BOYCOTT Toms shoes. He's got a history of attending anti gay events. Stop spending your dollars on Neiman Marcus, Saks, Nordstrom to express your displeasure.

  4. Just when you think Mags and B-Boy can sink no lower, here they are insinuating that the 4 Republican NYS legislators who voted for marriage equality SHOULD BE DEAD! What else could a Tombstone Award be? I thought they were vile before, but now they're taking a page from Sarah("They're not bulls eye targets.")Palin and her ad in Tucson. What a pair of asshats!

  5. Wait. The stabbing victim was black as were the assailants, right?

  6. Just saw the other Warhol Farrah portrait at UT's Blanton Museum yesterday. It does look lonely.

  7. Tombstone award? Sounds like incitement to threat to me.

  8. already contacted Neimans, Nordstroms, etc this weekend about Tom's

  9. I know Levine is supposed to be some kind of poon hound, but he pings loud and large on my gaydar.

Not that I'd touched the overly-tatted douch.

  10. TOMS shoes founder Blake Mycoskie gave a lame excuse. Mark my words, there's more wingnut links than has been revealed.

  11. "The video captured a large group of black youth getting into an altercation with a 25-year-old victim."

That's how it almost always goes, isn't it?

  12. That blurb about the Chicago incident is highly misleading. From reading it, it would seem like the stabbing itself was a racial incident. It was not. All of the assailants (many of whom can be seen on the video laughing and smiling) were African American.

The rift comes from the fact that people who pay taxes to live in Boystown don't appreciate their neighborhood being taken over by street thugs...

    Posted by: Jack | Jul 11, 2011 11:01:24 PM

  13. I thought Levine was openly gay, or at least it was common knowledge.

  14. "The rift comes from the fact that people who pay taxes to live in Boystown don't appreciate their neighborhood being taken over by street thugs..."

people who work and pay taxes in ANY neighborhood don't want to see it taken over by street thugs. But to too many city officials and obviously residents some neighborhoods are expendable.

what kind of thugs would have attacked your ass in Berlin in 1938?

  15. The Community Center on Halsted had flaws from the beginning. Kids are sleeping in the halls on the 2nd floor all day long. A few years ago, Howard Brown clinics were looking for gay mentors. I volunteered but was never used. I asked them why? They felt black kids should have black mentors and they did not have any black volunteers. I told them to utilized my services until they do. They didn't! The problem with so many of these non-profits are that they have too many Black-tie events that students, seniors and the little guys are priced out of them. It's time to audit all the non-profits and see where their dollars are being spent. An audit of Howard Brown found that their Board were inept and crooks!

  16. @Paul R: Levine's list of women include Jessica Simpson, Maria Sharapova (tennis player), Cameron Diaz, and Anne Vyalitsyna (Victoria's Secret model).

He told DNA magazine that he's not gay, but he wishes he were because he thinks relationships would be simpler.

    (just a quick google).

  17. I think it is interesting they NEVER make an "issue" of all the REAL attacks here in Chgo are from the SUBURBAN WHITE DRUNK MEN WHO USE METH!! They gloss that fact I have heard some men say how "hot" they are! that area is not a "white area" at all...I have no idea why they keep trying to make it like they own EVERYTHING when they do not! This area is "mixed" like all of america. I have seen the bashing from the suburban men...and not much is said...then they wonder why people do not take them seriously when they pull this BS..." TAKE BACK OUR COMMUNITY"...WHAT A CROCK!!

    Posted by: Shannon | Jul 12, 2011 7:46:59 PM

  18. Shannon:

Lay off the crack. Was this not a "real" attack?

Please, you like to talk smack about the white boys, and then claim that they commit ALL the crime. Sounds like you're doing the opposite of what you're accusing them of. How fitting.
