My mouth literally dropped open when the front page of Towleroad loaded and this hunk appeared. Time for a cold shower before work...

He's hot. Of course he's hot, he's Henry Cavill.
What's more interesting to me -- and may make a good cultural studies paper -- is, despite the U.S. population of 350 million, what has changed in American acting/maleness, that now nearly ALL the most iconic superheroes are British, and most of the rest played by foreigners?
Batman - BRITISH
Superman - BRITISH
Spiderman is now BRITISH
Thor - Australian
Wolverine - Australian
Green Lantern - Canadian
Captain America - American
Iron Man - American

Is his suit padded? I don't remember Henry being this big.

Strepsi: Another question is why most of the fantasy characters that have no basis in reality have to all be white Europeans...thought of that? What about superman looking like a person of Asian or African descent. It's a fantasy character so what gives?

@brenda - it's all fantasy but who's fantasy was it that created them...

Better looking in Henry VIII series, I think.
Mostly just seeing the suit here.

Ugly costume.

Brenda, most of these character were created in the early 20th century, so duh. Black Thor? You're right, that sounds totally plausible.

This movie and the N-th reboot of Spiderman will probably be the trigger for a superhero-equivalent to the Disco Demolition Night.

Looks like a spirited but lame attempt to keep Superman relevant past the baby boomer generation.
And yes, that suit absolutely is padded.

Please don't digitally remove his bulge... (s).

He is very hot but the costume is not.

That looks retarded.

Damnit, where's the "S" curl?
Posted by: JohnnyP | Aug 31, 2011 10:47:55 AM
Henry, it's time to take that suit to the dry cleaners
Posted by: Greg | Aug 31, 2011 10:53:22 AM
love the bulge

The costume is even more hideous than I could ever have imagined. Especially after "Smallville" lasted ten seasons with it's traditional approach to Superman (ie fun and heroic!), how could anyone think that what the public really wants is this?
They'll get my money when they give me Superman.

@ Brenda
Great point. While these superheroes may have originated in the early 20th century, the movies being made aren't (they're all being set in the present). Why not update more than just the setting. And, honestly, it could be a lot more interesting to retell these stories in new ways.

Wow yeah. He looks great, but that padded suit worries me a bit. It just looks...well... padded. I hope it photographs better for screen than in photos.

Somewhere there's a sad mannequin looking for its hair. :\

No Brenda; no David, you cannot change the superheros - there are easily tens of thousands of fans in America that would raise such a hue and cry about deviating from the traditional heros. The solution is to add new characters and advertise the heck out of them.

Is it just me or does he look a little like Rick Santorum in that last photo? I know, eewwwwww

YES! YES! YES! Cannot wait to see Henry in this!
