Violeta and Sujey Pando, Married Binational Lesbian Couple, Faces Split Over DOMA Deportation

Sujey

Yet another tale of DOMA and immigration inequality.

Violeta and Sujey Pando, a binational couple married last November 15 in Iowa, face being split apart on August 19 due to a deportation order unless an immigration judge grants Sujey's plea for asylum.

Their heartbreaking story here.

And more at Stop the Deportations.

  1. The only good thing that could come out of all this misery if it moves those in the middle to finally demand justice and equality for everyone.

Shame on Barack Obama for defending DOMA -- and brazenly lying about having to defend it and for using the most vicious language against us in defending it -- for two years when he could have been using his Democratic majority to repeal it.

How could he -- how could anyone -- be so heartless?

  2. DOMA is such a screwed up piece of legislation but the current brand of crazy in the House of Reps will block any moves to repeal it. With luck the immigration judge will come down on the right side of this issue.

  3. It's heartless, needless cruelty. It amazes me that so few people seem to grasp that this issue is at the core of the gay rights movement.

If we let them separate gay couples then we can't claim we've fought for gay rights.

  4. What a lovely-looking couple. I wish them well and hope they get to stay together. The major point is how can gay Americans be asked to pay the same taxes and receive only half the rights of straights. It's just ridiculous.

  5. This is Violeta Pando and by my side my wife Sujey Pando. Thank you everyone for all your comments. It makes us feel wonderful when we see all the support and realize that we are not alone. We await and hope for prosecutrial discretion in the next few months and hope that our case closes so that we can go on with our lives.
