Michele Bachmann Tells Iowa Youth to Give Lives to Jesus: VIDEO

UPDATE: Chris Moody at The Ticket posts a correction to the 'On Knees for Jesus' posting noting that Bachmann clearly says "Who likes wet people?" not "Who likes white people?"

Unedited video posted, AFTER THE JUMP...

Blog On Knees for Jesus has posted some rather unfortunate video of 2012 presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann asking a Christian Iowa crowd, "Who likes white people?"

A poster at Political Hotwire writes: "Apparently, the warm-up band for Bachmann was called the 'White People Soul Band'...'it is obvious to me that whan she asked 'Who likes white people?', she meant the band, but even from the reaction of the audience, you can hear a not so subtle undertone. Either way, it is extremely awkward and probably not the smartest thing to do when you know your opponent in the GE will be a black man."

But aside from that gaffe, the rest of the video is noteworthy for its feverish preaching.

"God is not partial," Bachmann later says, at the beginning of a sermon urging young people to pray. "That's my message for all of the young people here tonight. He is powerful...give your life over to him now while there is yet time. Jesus Christ. Trust him, and all his ways."

  3. What a stupid article. A non-issue. She obviously meant "white people soul band."

I think Bachmann is batshit crazy and I am NOT a fan of hers at all. But seriously. This is not news. It's crap, sensationalist "journalism" making her out to be a racist.

Brian i agree that on the context of this video here she doesn't really prove that she is racist. There are numerous other occasions where her words and actions would lead any sane person to suspect that she is extremely racist.

  5. @Brian, this is a blog not CNN.

  6. The "who likes white people?" question was just a small part of the clip. It's the heavy Fundamentalist speech that I found more disturbing. I had never heard of Jesus Christ referred to as the "creator of the universe".

  7. I find her ugly, inside and out.

  8. Look, I think she's a wackjob, but to be fair (i.e. unlike Michelle) in reporting, "White People" is the name of the band playing at that event.

  9. the "who likes White People" is just another sign that politicians are trying to be cool but dont listen to their advisors.

the preaching bit is kinda scary.

i dont get why American Politics revolves so much around religion. what happened to separation of church and state? y'all need a revolution. crickey

  10. Ma boo just reminded me of the Chris Farley incident in Black Sheep where he shouts out 'Kill Whitey'... too funny.

  11. A candidate for the office of the President (especially one who complains she's being taken out of context or being picked on) should be savvy enough to know saying something like "Who likes White People?" is so ripe it's a can't miss for anyone wishing to make her look like an idiot. Yet, she says it. She could have said, "Who doesn't love this band?" or "Who doesn't love WPSB?" (Who would bring on a band which names itself this anyway? How stupid is that???)

But even more frightening is what she says afterwards. The psycho-Christian (you certainly can't say it has much to do with Jesus Christ, either historically or from the Bible...it's simply, well, crazy-talk...) end of the world stuff -- yes, telling young people to give their life over to him WHILE THERE'S STILL TIME, tells me she is completely unfit for any office but most especially the Presidency, where she could too easily make something like that occur with a push of the button. People who believe the end of the world is close at hand should in any way be given power to create a war. This woman's religious believes have proven to outweigh common sense. She's dangerous.

That's what all sane, rational people need to point up about Michelle Bachmann or anyone like her (Rick Perry): do we really want someone with their finger on the bomb who believes the world is coming to an end soon?

  12. can we also look back on the fact that "White People Soul Band" is a pretty ignorant and stupid name for a band anyway?

and yea she was referring to them obviously, but do you really think there weren't a couple wink-nudges in there between the lines?

  13. Bachmann is the right(ist) candidate for her Tea Party constituency and the wrong candidate to be elected President. She's nothing but a gaffe-a-minute politician who is the last person we need to guide this nation out of its political, economic and financial morass.

  15. When I picked out those sandals for her I told her NOT to wear pantyhose with them! Goddammit she looks like she has webbed feet. Why do I even bother...sob sob.

  16. Even christians don't believe that Jesus created the universe. they think his dad did.

  17. @ Brian and Paul - this article isn't making her out to be a racist, it's showing how she shows a COMPLETE lack of judgement and skill when speaking. It's proving, once again, that she's a complete idiot.

And by the way - what kind of name is "White People Soul Band"? THAT sounds a little racist to me...

    Posted by: Carl | Aug 29, 2011 1:50:18 PM

  18. @Carl:

It's sad to me that so many of my queer brethren are so hysterical and sensitive and PC about EVERYTHING.

"White People Soul Band" is only racist if you're uptight and constantly have a stick up your ass.

    Posted by: Brian | Aug 29, 2011 2:00:28 PM

  19. Carl i agree with you but it's also fair to connect this with her other racist overtones, associations, and comments in the past. Only by connecting the dots do you get a more rounded picture of what someone is really like.

  20. I like (some) white people.

  21. Yet another LAME media article clearly designed to INTENTIONALLY DECEIVE and create a wrong impression of Michele Bachmann, and point away from her message - the message of the day, and her broader message. They owe Michele Bachmann an apology. As a Black man myself, it's offensive to me to hear the Left and the media keep falsely applying the race card on good honest people, in order to cloud their message.

The message of that specific day? That Jesus Christ is our Lord. Wow. How radical! EVERY president has said things like that. Even non-church-going-quasi-Christians-who-was-recorded-literally-laughed-at-the-Bible like our current president even say things like that, but get a pass from the media, quite honestly, because they know he barely believes it.

The broader message? Obama is responsible of taking a large 9 trillion dollar deficit accumulated over 2 centuries and adding 5 trillion and counting, over 14 trillion dollars, in just 3 short years! If this were a real job, he would've been "let go" after his first 30 days. He must be fired and sent to his long book tours in Europe where they LOVE overspending socialist leaders.

Further, our president has demonstrated the EXACT OPPOSITE of what it takes to create jobs. As a result, we've gone from 6.1 % unemployment when he took office to over 9 % now. This is a fact. And that's NOT INCLUDING those that this corrupt administration has redefined. If they used the same metrics as Bush, Clinton, and the other presidents, we'd be near 12 %.

And we're just getting started. If we don't repeal the unconstitutional Obamacare, our deficits have just begun. (And yes, unlike many politicians, I actually read the crazy 2000 page document via PDF.) It is a socialist's dream, and a mainstream person's worst nightmare, and will speed up the bankruptcy with our eyes wide open, because the Left slanders anybody who stands up to this unconstitutional destroyer. Ask your Congressman/woman why THEY get exempted from this and YOU don't, or why all the powerful companies (McDonald's, etc) who have good relations with the Democrats get exemptions but Mom & Pop businesses don't.

In short, let's not buy the propaganda that the president's PR team (the media) is selling, and look at the facts. If so, we'll all conclude:

  22. This is how racist Republicans work. They say "innocent" things like Macaca and then act like they have no idea why you are offended by it. Bachmann and the radical right are constantly speaking code, saying "Yes I'm one of you, but the liberal media won't let me say things, so I have to code it, wink wink."

    Posted by: DaveinLA | Aug 29, 2011 2:34:26 PM

  23. She just stretched that the hurricane and earthquake were caused by God. So we can get over whatever stretch it might be to say that this is all out racist. It feels that way to us. It was certainly very dumb and in bad taste.

    Posted by: Mike | Aug 29, 2011 2:47:19 PM

  24. @EDDIE ROCKS, your right-wing (teaparty) propaganda would fly on gay patriot or Faux News... Don't expect your biased "facts" to be taken as such on this site. And nice try in attempting to take the spotlight off of your obviously bigot candidates in the GOP.

Michele Bachmann is done, Rick Perry is leading in all the GOP primaries and will be the nominee. Perry will be 10x worst than Bush if elected.

  25. I was just talking to Jesus and he said he wants nothing to do with the Bachmann's. Sorry Michele.
