Former Sportscaster Damian Goddard Touts His 'Traditional Marriage' Victim Status for NOM: VIDEO

NOM has tapped former Canadian sportscaster Damian Goddard as the latest face of its 'Marriage Anti-Defamation Alliance'. He's also its only other named staff member aside from Maggie Gallagher.

You may recall that Goddard was fired from Sportsnet earlier this year over this tweet:

Goddard's tweet was in response to a tweet from Uptown Sports Management, a major hockey agency, in which it condemned New York Ranger Sean Avery for his support of the campaign to pass marriage equality in New York.

Watch Goddard whine about how "traditional marriage" supporters are being oppressed, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. I'd love for him to specifically articulate how Canada having marriage equality already has made a specifically negative impact on his life.

    for real.

    what a wimp.

  2. he was fired by Sportsnet over this tweet MONTHS ago in Canada.

Canada doesnt' support those who contribute to a culture of hatred and prejudice. This man is a little wuss.

Wanna see a real man? Take a good look, here, at Brian Burke.
General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, whos openly gay son Brendan was killed in an accident a few years ago. Brian continues to be a terrific champion for human equality, while pathetic bigots like Goddard whine about how oppressed they are by no longer being allowed to openly "mock fags" in locker rooms.

  3. He said - "each of us have to make a choice, speak up" I agree and I did. He got his say, his employer got their say, and he can keep the controversy going as long as he wants to appear on camera.

What I find remarkable - still - is the hard-rights embrase nee' bear hug, of the tenants of victimization. It is not enough to follow their gods martyrs, they must transmute themselves into martyrs themselves. They must say they were denied free speech! While gay people are denied our basic civil rights that they so unremarkably take for granted.

  5. They fired him over that tweet? That's crazy. Hell I'm gay and I still wouldn't fire someone for saying that.

  6. aint it INSANE, Allen?

he's not a victim of Gay Rights Activists, he's a victim of the sheer fact that Canadian culture is about progressivism and inclusivity.

our fist legal same-sex marriage was performed in 2001, folks.

he wasn't fired "because of the tweet" - he was fired, specififcally, because the reaction to the tweet in Canada set of a massive firestorm. why? simple - we canucks don't tolerate bigotry. he wasn't fired because the company didnt' like the tweet, he was fired because the Canadian public took a massive issue with his comment.

    there's a difference.

  7. If men and women can still legally get married, then traditional marriage is not under attack. Period.

  8. Kiwi

I candidly dont know much about general Canadian public sentiment, but from your description it sounds awesome.

One might have thought a newscaster would have had a better gauge on his audiences predispositions before taking his livelihood into his hands on such a public forum.

His self righteous and self delusory sanctimony vis a vis his marriage may remain intact. His reputation as a provider to his daughters however might require some evaluation.

  9. I have a few words for Damian Goddard, man up you pussy, oh ya and cry me a river. Also I'd like to see if nom would have stood by him if he'd said he'd like to see divorce made illegal, after all that really would help streathen marriage.

  10. the reality is that this idiot is crying victim because he, due to the beauty of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, is no longer "legally better than anyone else."

he's not arguing with LGBT people. he's literally arguing against the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

    it's hilarious.

  11. Dear Mr. Goddard, perhaps you will read this or someone will pass it along to you. You said you believed that God has a plan. Perhaps that's why you were fired. Because his plan is to hold bigots accountable for their unfairness and dispicable beliefs.

    Think about it.

  12. I can't believe he was fired just for the tweet-perhaps people got tired of his whining.

  14. Damn right he loves telling stories. Anyone know how to submit this for an Oscar? Also, this is all so so camp.

  15. Goddard is yet another example of a whining right-wing bigot.

He was useless as a sportscaster and he obviously has not evolved as a Canadian, either.

    What a dork.

  16. I just love these individuals who hide behind their very strong bias behind the name of God!
Someone should inform him that we are not living in the 17th century any long,
