Seann William Scott's Gay-Defending 'Goon': VIDEO

I had seen a few news items about Seann William Scott's upcoming hockey flick Goon (which is apparently the #1 movie in Canada right now) but had no idea its plot was kicked off with a homophobic slur incident.

Outsports reports: Scott

“Goon” is about Doug, a nice but not overly intelligent man, is working as a bouncer in a bar. One night he and his friend, Ryan, go to a hockey game where one of the hockey players, who ends up in the penalty box, gets irritated calling Ryan a fag. Doug does not like this because his brother is gay and when the hockey player attacks Ryan, Doug steps in and beats the hockey player.

Have any Canadian readers seen it?

The film's trailer, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. It's getting tons of press and air time here, but I hadn't heard about the gay angle either.

The reviews I've heard are generally positive, comparing it to (what else) "Slapshot".

    And "The Artist" of course.

  2. Im in Canada but wasn't planning on seeing it.

  3. Yep, that's pretty much how it plays out in the film... His gay brother comes back later in the film and has the chance to return the favor to Seann William Scott's character by standing up for him in front of their parents who disapprove of his choice of a career...

Bonus points: seeing Marc-André Grondin sitting on a couch wearing just Ginch Gonch briefs :P

  5. YES! it's a great flick! funny and surprisingly touching!

as for marc-andre grondin (who starred in the film C.R.A.Z.Y, which you should all see IMMEDIATELY if you've not yet seen it) is so dreamy it's maddening.

  6. Yes, Marc Andre is insanely hot. Also, Sean W Scott is gay and is quite open about it around LA.

  8. My brother's friend's cousin dated this girl who used to be a hair dresser, and one of her clients told her that he goes to a personal trainer who once overhead a guy at his gym who is a bartender at a West Hollywood gay bar tell someone that he once had sex with Sean William Scott.

  9. Endo: Best post I've read all day. If it's on the internet, it must be true

  10. This looks fabulous, how fast can I see it? And has Scott come out anywhere in print/video. Wanna see.

  11. I have seen it, it's available now on iTunes in the US, and was really surprised how funny and touching it was. You do not need to have any love of hockey at all to enjoy the film a great deal.

    money quotes ...

    "Hey! My brother's gay!" *punch*

    "Gay porn hard!"

    "No glory holes tonight!"

"Stupid. Gay. Stupid. Gay." (which isn't at all insulting when in context, just laugh out loud funny)

Plus there are plenty of hot guys ;-)

  16. Actor Jay Baruchel told Craig Ferguson last night that he wrote this movie. If you get the HDNet-Movies channel on your cable/satellite system, this movie is airing one night only March 28th as one of their free "Sneak Preview" offerings.

  17. C.R.A.Z.Y. Is probably the best gay movie ever made

  18. If the description is true, Goon will be a welcome change from that Slap Shot crap.

  19. The trailer looks real good. I hope the Canadians have a sense of humor. Making fun of hockey is like making fun of their religion. But it's funny because it's true, about the fighting.

  23. Almost any hockey movie will be a hit up here. But "The Lorax" is actually the #1 hit movie this weekend! LOL.

  24. I'm pretty sure that you can stream this title on VUDU right now. The other movie, C.R.A.Z.Y., is available to stream through Netflix as well.

  25. Love love LOVE Sean William Scott. Gorgeous guy, obviously vulnerable (sports a broken heart tattoo above his crotch area and has been in rehab already), and incredibly funny. Husband material, in my opinion. I wish him all the best, and I can't wait to see this film, and much more of him in the future!
