Protest Planned Against NC Pastor Who Would Round Up and Kill Gays and Lesbians

Worley

Yesterday, we posted this video of Rev. Charles Worley, advocating concentration camps for gays and lesbians where they would be let to die (because they don't procreate, according to the pastor).

ChurchCatawba Valley Citizens Against Hate aren't standing for it, and have organized a protest on Sunday at 10 am:

We are organizing a PEACEFUL protest against Pastor Worley's bigoted and hate filled rhetoric. Regardless if you are gay or straight, Christian or not... this rhetoric is dangerous and harmful. Taking a peaceful stand for our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is paramount.

More details about the protest will be posted to this page soon. Please, only RSVP if you plan to come. If you are out of town, and support our cause but will not be coming to the event, please do not RSVP. In lieu of participating in this event, you can email Pastor Worley at [email protected], to let him know what you think of his rhetoric. Remember, making threats against Pastor Worley will not help our cause and may result in criminal charges against you. Keep your message clean, clear and peaceful.

  1. Good. This man is pond scum. We should also be protesting for those four gay men to be hanged in Iran for sodomy. Names are Saadat Arefi, Vahid Akbari, Javid Akbari and Houshmand Akbari.

  4. the web site is down but the telephone number is 828-428-2518, the number is busy as of 8:15 am on 5/22 so the telephone may be off the hook but I intend to call and tell the person who answers that this pastor hasn't got a clue about what being christian is all about and should be removed.

  5. This is what we should be talking about and not whether black people are more homophobic than white people or vice versa.

There are homophobes in America who want to kill ALL LGBT people in this country regardless of what race/color we are.

  6. I'm sure this will ignite a firestorm...but where is the indignation when Muslims preach this garbage and worse - death to gays and such. And right here in good ol America. We are all so eager to brand any Christian a zealot bigot while ignoring the 800 pound elephant in the room. Have a look at the webpages below and please be honest enough to have the same moral outrage. Every religion has its imbeciles...but these comments on this subject in prior threads ,were largely as vitriolic as the hate speech this dipshit pastor spews. A little circumspection would do nicely. http://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2010/02/13/muslim-leaders-agree-death-for-gays/

  8. Screw the protest, this guy needs to be INVESTIGATED and thrown into prison for inciting genocide! If this were Canada or the UK I am sure he would be.

  10. The 800 pound elephant in the room? You've got to be kidding. How many Republican law makers are Muslim? How many members of congress, the senate or state houses across America? How many muslim mayors and governors? NOM, the AFA and other christian groups who do nothing but fight against us? All secret Muslim? How many mega church's are muslim? In how many towns and states is there an actual push for Sharia law? Muslims in this country have about as much sway on politics and the laws governing us as the scientologists do. Less probably.

If I was living in a country where Islam was the predominant religion, then I'd be fighting that. If you seriously think our difficulties, our lack of equality and rights in this country are due to Islam, you're as crazy as this preacher.

  11. 1) Many people say 'God hates gays' and keep using the word 'God' not 'Jesus'. The fact is Jesus Christ NEVER CONDEMNED HOMOSEXUALITY and Christ is the God for Christians. Some may then say God is the Father, but there's no such religion of 'Godian' , 'Fatherian' or whatever. So for people to still believe 'God hates gays', either those people are taking GOP as 'GOD', (GOP are indeed one of the biggest bigots and of course the false 'God'), or those religious nuts are worshiping a different 'God' other than Jesus. Either way homophobes bigots are not true followers of Christ but ANTICHRIST rather as they share a different view of belief from Christ and chose not to follow his commandments.

2)In the religion Christianity, the believers are followers of Christ and it's clearly stated by Jesus that His top 2 commandments are above all other biblical laws and they should follow those. The top 2 commandments are to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. So again, religious nuts just like pharisees, are ANTICHRIST who are obsessed with all others nonsense religious laws which they put as higher importance to those of Jesus top commandments! Jesus condemns such religious nuts just as He condemned those pharisees.

  12. "We are all so eager to brand any Christian a zealot bigot while ignoring the 800 pound elephant in the room."

So we shouldn't brand a Christian who calls for concentration camps for gay people a zealot bigot because other religious people (i.e. Muslims) are also intolerant extremists? There wasn't any 800 pound elephant to this story aside from Rev. Worley. If you saw one, you're hallucinating.

  13. I'm sure he is reveling in all the attention, so, rather than protest, we should all just ignore the old coot so he doesn't get any attention.

  14. m&f

I never said that our difficulties were due to Islam in the united states -Its practioners are a minute percentage of the population. And to your assertion that sharia is not being pushed here...you are as wrong as wrong could be. Where there are large populations of Muslim adherents in the united states (Minnesota, Ohio, Texas) sharia is absolutely held to be superior to local law and it is always posited as a religious freedom that should trump our justice system. It has even been held to be legally applicable in court cases in dozens of cases. And Mega mosques do exist. That said...this is still an extremely small percentage of the population, agreed. The point is that we should not impugn the beliefs of Christians at large because of the assertions of a few anachronists that interpret Leviticus as the literal word of god. We tell conservatives this very thing about islam, right? Religion is slow to evolve. It takes a generational shift to affect a real change, and it is changing. I live this every day in a town of 500 people in west Texas. believe me...notions of homosexuality are often intractable here. But I believe that it is better to try to change minds by showing that i can value their opinion while holding firmly to my own rather villifying their religion which would only serve to close ears and harden hearts. As I said before...every religion has its imbeciles ...but we do not have to be equally imbecilic in our reactions to their provocations.

  15. And I was addressing the comments made on this story in previous threads - as I specifically said. I never said that this pastor shouldn't be called out for fomenting hate.

  16. @????: Is the intent of the protest to vilify a religion? My impression is that its intent is to protest his views, which call for concentration camps for gay people. Why would anyone value such opinions? Not everyone may think a protest that calls attention to this nut is the best idea, but its hardly imbecilic on par with his views.

The threat to the US from Sharia law is a myth created by right wing extremists. The only people successfully inserting religion into secular life and civil law in this country are Christians.

  19. Looks like they pulled the website and email address down. Guess they didn't expect the outpouring of love they were getting... (and should have been giving!)

  20. A protest is more attention than this man deserves. Negative attention is like a drug for false prophets. It affirms their self righteous victimization and encourages the production of more bile-stimulated rhetoric. He's a small time Christian fraud, now reveling in the anger his words have stirred. Ignore him. He won't go away, but losing the spotlight of worldly attention is a far greater punishment for big ego-driven men like Worley.

  21. Good evening,I am a Preacher (Baptist-Evangelical),I am a Christian and former Muslim.I haven't heard want the Pastor said (Rev. Worley)but I have read what was said and even though the Bible w/o a doubt says that Homosexuality is an abomination and it is a SIN like any-other sin, I don't agree with Pastor Worley killing all gays/lesbian's (putting them all behind a fence,so they can die off). But please understand that like any debate or major issue, some people take things to far to the left or to far to the right (unfortunetly),also not everyone is this extreme.

    Thanks

  24. Leaving off – just think of the closeted child brought to church by his/her family, who secretly struggles with his/her identity and sexuality, having to listen to a man rant and rave about how gays deserve to die alone and secluded from society. Does it get better for these children? Laura Tipton and activists similar to her show that yes, it does get better… or at least it will.

  25. I could not believe what I heard. This is preaching using the Lord as back up. It is so sad this only creates strife and pain. He is not a son of God, he is one of those when he is in the presence of the Lord, Jesus Christ will cast him to hell I do not know you get away from me liar.
Mr. check your life and soul repent you are not a son of God, what you are preaching is what you carry in your heart hatred.
God will work with you- Gays, Lesbians and everybody else God bless you. This guy is being used by the devil and his soul if he does not repent will end up in the lake of fire.
