Massive Glacier Nearly Sinks Speedboat as It Collapses into Ocean: VIDEO

If you're going to go glacier-gazing, don't get too close, and have the motor running.

Writes the video uploader:

A tourist from Australia came to my uncle and asked if she could get a ride to the glacier just north of Ilulissat, Greenland, so he asked me if I wanted to be his translator. I am from another town where glaciers are fairytales, I was as much of a tourist as the Australian tourist, so I decided to join the crew.

The beautiful scenery was amazing, but the nature doesn't care about anyone. That day almost became our last day.

  2. Wow! That happened fast! From the early part of the footage, I never would have guessed a big chunk was about to break off.

  3. The passengers obviously thought that was cool, but that boat captain ought to have known better!! They were well within the kill zone of that glacier. Newsflash people, if you want to get nice pictures or video of dangerous things like calving glaciers or man hungry grizzly bears, don't get close to them with your crappy camera/camcorder...get a better camera/camcorder with this thing called a TELEPHOTO lens. Those National Geographic guys aren't lugging camera lenses larger than a toddler for the exercise. They do it to get the shot from a safe distance.
