RoadMan charged in anti-gay assault in Portland will spend NO time behind bars: "He was sentenced to 18 months probation and ordered to have no contact with the victims. He must also pay them $4,200 in restitution."

MorrisseyRoadThe Olympics ignite Morrissey's anti-British rage: "I am unable to watch the Olympics due to the blustering jingoism that drenches the event. Has England ever been quite so foul with patriotism? The "dazzling royals" have, quite naturally, hi-jacked the Olympics for their own empirical needs, and no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press. It is lethal to witness."

RoadLevi Johnston doesn't approve of Bristol allowing his son to use anti-gay slurs, etc on national television. He wants full custody.

RoadVIDEO: Kelly Clarkson slays No Doubt's "Dont' Speak".

RoadLesbian lawmaker eyeing governor's office in Maryland: "Del. Heather Mizeur, a second-term lawmaker, said yesterday that she is taking a hard look at a potential run for statewide office. She didn't exactly spell out which office she has her eye on, but she wouldn't rule out a try for the top spot. 'I'm keeping my options open relative to the 2014 race. I'm not ruling anything out,' she said."

LeisnerRoadThe Smoking Gun ferrets out the anti-gay activist who set General Mills' lawn on fire. "On Michael Leisner’s YouTube page (Live4Chr1st) he can be seen attacking Representative Barney Frank and Bill Maher, while noting that President Barack Obama has 'bent forward to accommodate the sodomites of New York.' He also makes reference to 'gay perverts,' 'fierce faggots,' and the 'depraved, debasing debauchery of gay activists.'"

RoadIrish radio host Derek Mooney: Yes, I’m gay...but it’s no big deal.

RoadA new single from Dragonette: Live in This City.

RoadGay married couple allowed to file joint bankruptcy in Kentucky: "Kentucky voters amended the state constitution in 2004 to say that 'only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage.' But Joles and Lester were allowed to file a joint Chapter 13 bankruptcy in federal court because the Obama administration has decided it will no longer contest such filings by married same-sex couples. Joles and Lester, who lost more than $200,000 they invested in a downtown market — The Bodega at Felice — say the administration’s change was a blessing."

It topped the best-selling lists in his home country, the daily said."

RoadMarriage equality advocate ends cross-country bike trip in Portland: "Richard Carey of New York City began his 3,700-mile, 54-day trek in June in Vancouver, Wash., to raise money and support for the legalization of gay marriage. The 53-year-old Carey ends his trip Tuesday in Portland, where he'll join gay-marriage supporters for a press conference at the headquarters of the Mainers United for Marriage organization."

RoadGerman minister supports tax benefits for gay couples: "On Monday, a group of 13 CDU lawmakers released a statement demanding that the German parliament take the initiative in granting gay couples in a civil union the same joint-filing tax benefits enjoyed by married couples. And Monday evening, the group received powerful support. German Family Minister Kristina Schröder told the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung that the push comes 'at the right time, because in lesbian and gay life partnerships, people take lasting responsibility for one another and thus they live according to conservative values.'"

  1. I know we should be used to this by now, but I can't help but think of the all out victim-fest we'd have going on right now on Huckabee's show if some gay guy set Chick-fil-A corporate's lawn on fire.

  2. The MN Cheerios arsonist has since been "fired" and his contact information was removed from Greater Midwest Properties (his broker) webpage. The email that I received from them in reply to my inquiry states:

Thank you for your comment. Greater Midwest Properties does not condone or support the actions of our independent contractors. Also, Greater Midwest Properties does not support the alleged destruction of property. Therefore, the agent’s license will be returned to the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Greater Midwest Properties has no involvement in this incident and it is unrelated to us serving our clients in a professional manner.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention,
    Greater Midwest Properties

Of course returning his license and having it revoked on the basis that he did not act according to the higher standards of fairness and equality expected from Realtors, as well as the alleged arson, are two entirely different things. He can simply find another gay hating chick fil a eating broker to take him in.

  3. Dear Mr. Morressey. If you are are tired of the Royals at the Olympics, please tune into any of our NBC telecasts of the event. I promise you that nary a Royal will be given any air time, nor will you gain any useful Olympic coverage much beyond endless self-promotion for a 3rd rate broadcast network and useless filler trivia brattle about events of not related to any games of recent memory.

  4. Thanks SMoking Gun. I forwarded that link to the Golden Valley, MN police department. I think they are probably all over it already though.

  6. RE "Gay married couple allowed to file joint bankruptcy in Kentucky"

    (A) This has nothing to do with KY law. Bankruptcy is a federal thing. Period.

    (B) A California bankruptcy court found DOMA section 3 unconstitutional and Boehner's BLAG decided it wasn't worth appealing. THIRTEEN MONTHS AGO.

This (small) battle was won. And Towleroad covered it.

  7. The Olympics don't have a lot going for them, coverage-wise. Morrissey should know that all the jingoism is for the tourists.

Yes, burning cheerios is a traditional protest in MN, where all politics is metaphorically related to branded food items.

  8. I'm adopting "fierce faggot" as my new moniker. Angry alliteration is awesome.

  9. For the record, I think the report of Tripp Palin using anti-gay slurs is probably untrue. Bristol is claiming it was another "f" word.

Given Bristol's and Willow's history, though, it was not unreasonable to jump to the conclusion that it was "f*g" or "f*ggot," as a lot of people apparently did.

I am not that bothered by the kid picking up "f*ck"; but I am bothered by Bristol's judgment to share that incident, and her and Willow's unsophisticated reaction to it, with the world. It's tacky at best. I also think it's a violation of that kid to film him and put him on TV/online. He's too young to give any kind of proper consent there.

I must say that Bristol has her mother's quality of having very little understanding of and appreciation for how little knowledge she has. We see here an example of how ignorance and narcissism can be perpetuated between generations.

  10. Morrisey uses the word 'empirical' in a way I'm not familiar. I thought 'empirical' meant 'objective' or 'based on evidence'. Did he mean 'imperial'? Is this an empirical Brit thing that he's doing?

  11. Shocked by the seeming support withing the CDU in Germany. Maybe we won't have to wait for the conservatives to get kicked out before our civil union gets a marriage upgrade. It won't be long before they're the last western European country without full marriage if they're not careful.

The husband and i were just discussing this very thing a couple if days ago. Very exciting.

  13. LOL...yes, I think Morrissey meant 'Imperial'

  14. I think Morrissey is right. At the Olympic opening ceremony the Queen looked like someone had peed in her cheerios.

You can try to rehabilitate the royal family's public persona but the sour entitlement keeps shining through.

  16. Wow.... The German Supreme Court ruled yesterday that it is unconstitutional to deny same sex couples in German Civil Unions the same tax rights as heterosexuals in marriages. There had been a real discussion because the German Constitution explicitly defines marriage and family as having and requiring "special protection," which has until now allowed the conservatives to deny gay couples many of the same rights in taxation, social security, probate, etc., claiming this "special protection" was meant only for straight families.

This is a HUGE ruling. The court ruled that same sex couples ARE family and the civil unions law was created with the intention of making that legally so and therefore protected under the same constitutional language. This will (should) finally bring the rights of married straight couples and gays and lesbians in civil unions to parity, and quite possibly bring the country to full marriage.
