Romney Tells Harry Reid 'It's Time to Put Up or Shut Up' About His Alleged 10 Years of Unpaid Taxes: VIDEO

Anderson Cooper looks at Harry Reid's allegations that Mitt Romney has ten years of unpaid taxes, and Romney's response on Sean Hannity's radio show yesterday.

Said Romney:

"Well, it's time for Harry to put up or shut up. Harry's going to have to describe who it is he spoke with because of course, that's totally and completely wrong," Romney told Hannity in a radio interview. "It's untrue, dishonest, and inaccurate. It's wrong. So I'm looking forward to have Harry reveal his sources and we'll probably find out it's the White House."

Unfortunately, the only way that Romney can disprove Reid is by releasing his tax returns. which he has thus far refused to do.

  1. Put up or shut up?....Was he saying this to himself in a mirror. Release 12 years of tax returns like your father did!

  2. "Erratic behavior", Gramps? Reid is an extremely cautious politician, far too cautious for many of us. Something tells me he has the goods and will unveil when it will do maximum damage.

  3. Wow. I swear this guy will be the snakiest snake that ever snaked if he gets in there. He's gonna make W look like a weak little kitten. And he will be a huge embarrassment to our country.

  4. One of the few things that I agree with Romney on is that it is time for fellow Mormon Harry Reid to put up or shut up.Yep, thats rght they are both members of that silly cult.

  5. I can't wait to see what's in these tax returns. Clearly something atrocious.

  6. October surprise anyone?

  7. You can tell how effective Harry Reid has been by how much the right-wingy tea-bagger echo chamber cries "No Fair!" and "Oh yeah? Well, where's Obama's college transcript?"

    Well played, Harold!

  8. Republicans, Fox News, etc.... routinely float these kinda of statements, and because of the large amount of accusations flying around at any one time NO one in media hold them accountable with "proof", or even asks one simple followup question. Let alone, really looking into it.

This is not on Reid, but on Romney to resolve. If untrue, Romney could easily "slap" Reid down by releasing the returns!!

The question is on everyones minds and is not going away.

I strongly support Reid on this issue! Romney should put up and release the returns. And by the way, respond to the questions about the Swiss bank accounts, Cayman Island holdings etc....

It is outrageous that a man running for the highest office refuses to disclose what should be standard procedure protocol for anyone running for president.

  9. reid is a cautious politician, but he is indeed a mormon, and he smells a rat. he may not know a thing, but the only way he can get caught out for libel is for romney to "put up or shut up" (and who told romney to use THAT unfortunate phrase). i'm pretty sure that reid is bluffing, but a good bluff wins a hand just as surely as a full house, if the other guy foldz.

  10. Good god, Romney is so BAD at this.

    Posted by: SgtSausagepants | Aug 3, 2012 10:25:00 AM

  11. Yes, it is time, past time actually, for someone to put up. SHOW US YOUR PAPERS, Romney. It will clear all this up, right?

    Posted by: Mitch | Aug 3, 2012 10:25:50 AM

  12. Once again, the new US elections will be fixed.
Mitt Romney will be elected even though Barack Obama will have received more votes during this elections.
Crossroads GPS, the most influential Neocon group, and behind all George Bush, will be the author of this manipulation.

The Neocons will have Mitt Romney elected to first use him and then dispose of him. All blames and responsibilities will fall on the new Mormon president for these events planned by the Zionists.

The new World War of Religion is already a done deal behind the backs of all people which will be forced to fight for their own Countries in their obligation as citizens.

  13. Romney show your papers now. What are you hiding?

    Posted by: Onehandriter | Aug 3, 2012 10:44:19 AM

  14. Uhm romney

    put up or shut up

    release the returns

Posted by: say what | Aug 3, 2012 10:49:23 AM

  15. Good for Reid. And shame on Anderson.

On the floor of the Senate, being a legislative body, I imagine any speech is protected, no proof required.

But even in public, Reid needs no proof, to make these easily-rebutted claims.

If Reid spoke falsely, all Romney needs to do is sue him for slander (or perhaps libel since it's recorded). Why would Reid put himself at risk for this?

Or all Romney needs to do is release his tax returns. Reid is right about that.

The fact that Romney is sending out his buddies, rather than rebut this simply and directly is telling.

  16. But, Mittens, your shoes are on the wrong feet, so stamping them in a hissy fit just looks silly. Harry Reid doesn't have anything to prove here, you do. Show the tax returns and make Harry look bad if you're not hiding anything. Waiting . . .

Romney, the man who never met a gaffe he didn't love.

  17. I am a life long liberal democrat who likes Sen Reid, but it is time for him to put up or shut up. In the USA it is not acceptable to accuse people of crimes or question their credibility without some proof. Not acceptable from Bachmann. Not acceptablle from Reid.

    Posted by: andrew | Aug 3, 2012 10:59:16 AM

  18. andrew

    false equivalence

bachman accusations put a person's life at stake = the FBI is providing extra protection to Huma due to receiving death threats and per our intelligence experts = endangering International relations by hampering the work of the CIA with bachman sitting on the committee in charge of them

reid's accusation only hurts romney if true and not his life, just his image/ ego/ and chance at the white house

false equivalency is the realm of repub trolls masquerading as concern trolls .....a "life long liberal democrat" doesn't have to preface their statement with such..They just are, only false flaggers say such

Posted by: say what | Aug 3, 2012 11:03:20 AM

  19. did he really say put up or shut put to this?

Wow he really is not even close to being smart or clever enough to be president.

Put up the tax returns or shut up Mitt.

  20. "I am a life long liberal democrat who likes Sen Reid, but it is time for him to put up or shut up."

Really? Is Harry Reid running for President? No, but Romney is, and people running for President ought to release their damn tax returns. As George Romney (Mitt's father) said when he was running for President: "Any politician who will not show multiple year taxes may be hiding something."

    Posted by: BABH | Aug 3, 2012 11:18:09 AM

  21. McCain says Reid is showing "erratic behavior" but he is not saying Reid has his information wrong. McCain's campaign allegedly reviewed those returns, so McCain knows more than he's saying. What McCain ISN'T saying is Romney paid his taxes and did nothing wrong and his tax returns are fine.McCain could come out and say "I saw Romney's returns and there's no fraud there, he paid taxes every year.", but he's not. He's not willing to put his personal reputation on the line for Willard.

Reid is a cautious politician and a Mormon. I don't think he would say this if it were untrue, he has nothing to gain and everything to lose. If Romney releases his returns and he paid his taxes according to law, then Reid is toast and the Democrats suffer a huge embarrassment. If Romney doesn't release those returns and demolish Reid and the Democrats, then you can be sure what they contain is bad.

Since Romney must tithe ten percent of his income to the church, if he misreported or hid income he is not only cheating the American government, he's cheating the Mormon church. Reid is also a Mormon and may be outraged by such fraud on the part of a "bishop" of the church.

The path to redemption for Romney is clear, release 12 years of returns. If Reid's sources agree to go public (about mid-late October would be ideal) then Romney and the GOP are screwed. Very cagey of McCain not to vouch for Romney. He's not going down with the Mittannic.

  22. I agree: either is submits *all* of his taxes for public review, or we'll NEVER shut up.

  23. What a pompous ass Romney is ... what ever happened to referring to the Majority Leader of the Senate as "Senator"?

    Posted by: Mi-miami | Aug 3, 2012 11:51:41 AM

  24. Oh this one's too easy, Mitt. Steve Schmidt vetted VP candidates for the McCain campaign and passed over Mitt Romney for Sarah Palin. I'm assuming she paid her taxes.

  25. Towleroad is a bit late in reporting Reid's blistering response.
