Catholic League's Bill Donohue Reacts to Serrano's 'Piss Christ' by Putting Obama in a Jar with Feces: VIDEO

Donohue

Bill Donohue, the mouthpiece of the Catholic League, whose anti-gay crusades have include getting a gay Smithsonian art show censored, wrongly scapegoating gays as the problem for sexual abuse in the Catholic church, campaigning against gay adoption, condemning Kathy Griffin, slobbering over gym bodies, and attacking Towleroad, has found a new crusade, and it's the return of Andres Serrano's controversial work of art "Piss Christ", a photograph of a crucifix submerged in the artist's urine.

Donohue has responded with his own work of art, a bobblehead of President Obama in a jar with feces (Donohue claims it's Play-Doh) and says he wants to sit down with Serrano and find out how he can get a $50,000 grant too.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

  4. It's too bad the coward disabled comments on his video. It's the only thing he's done that I've liked!

He's absolutely correct to call out the double standard of treatment of blasphemy against Christians vs against Muslims, particularly by the current president.

But as for cash, he gets cash for doing nothing at all, just for being involved in his religious organization. So no sympathy for the jerk there.

Blaspheme ALL the religions. It's a good thing.

  5. Oh look. He made a doodie.

\/\/ Bill. As usual, out of context and offline. WaaWaaWaaaa. We're insulted! Nice microcosm you're living in there, moron. It suits you.

You know why nobody says anything when people insult you? Because your deified profit said, "...turn the other cheek."

    *facepalm*

  8. Very stupid of the nasty Donahue, and especially to drag Pres. Obama into this mess. The ONLY thing I'll agree with on this issue (even though I don't mind the Piss Christ piece) is that you KNOW that gallery wouldn't dare show a piece of "art" about Muhammed like that. So, there's no moral courage nor credibility to that gallery.

  9. Catholics are delusional.

  10. "Piss Christ" still, again? What century is he living in? There should be an expiration date on manufactured outrage.

"Piss Christ" was a perfectly valid work of art, but it really doesn't merit decades of controversy. Bigot Bill will be mumbling about it on his deathbed.

  11. *rolls eyes*

OK, so WTF does a TWENTY-FIVE year old photograph have to do with Obama? Did he make it? No. Was he in Congress when it was funded? No. So what's the connection?

That he said the Innocence of Muslims video was offensive? It is offensive and it was INTENDED to be offensive. Just as Piss Christ is offensive and intended to be offensive. Obama also defended the free speech rights of the filmmaker. So again, what's the connection?

Frankly I hope the actors involved sue the filmmaker into destitution because if HE wants to make a statement about Islam he should have at it, but he had NO right to put their lives at risk by putting words into their mouths, which he knew all along he was going to do.

  12. Anyone have a picture of Donohue's mother?

    Posted by: Donohue's Dad, Possibly | Sep 26, 2012 7:29:53 PM

  13. Oh, and if Donahue thinks Obama or anyone else gives a sh*t, Play-Doh or not, about his paranoiac Papist antics he's mistaken.

    Who cares?

  14. GOOD thing it's not Muhammad in that jar. It would be suicide-bomb NYC day.

  15. Proof the Catholics are insane.

    Posted by: Bob | Sep 26, 2012 7:43:26 PM

  16. What work of art demeaning Mohammed was rejected by the gallery? It's ridiculous to suggest that they lack moral courage based on a hypothetical situation. But while we're reaching back 30 years, a work of art considered offensive to Islam was absolutely touted by artistic establishment. Rushdie's The Satanic Verses resulted in a fatwa. Bill Donahue thinks he's being cute with his little protest. It might even have been funny if he didn't take Serrano so seriously.

  17. Caliban is completely on point here. As for the "Catholics are insane" sentiment--um, generalize much. Donohue is a whack job. He'd be a whack job if he was an Atheist, Muslim, Jew, whatever.

  18. I am convinced homophobia is a direct result of an unattractive man having the knee jerk reaction of thinking he will hate gay men in order to avoid the obvious.

  19. Someone please connect the dots for me.
    Oh, that's right...piss christ = poop obama.
    It's clear as a bell...so simple. WTF???
catliks are beyond insane these days...and donohue is their perfect spokesperson.

  21. Give it up. Piss Christ was from 1987. It used to be religious zealots loved art. Just not when they disagree with it. He's basically trying score anti-Obama points by yelling crap. He should have just put his head in the jar. Same thing.

    Posted by: David | Sep 26, 2012 7:56:40 PM

  22. Sean : You know as well as I do that the gallery would not accept something that could be construed as disrespectful to Mohammad, whether it's actually happened yet or not. So...let's not pretend. Because, GENERALLY-speaking, Muslims have their sector that WILL attack and kill, which other religions don't these days. And force makes people and art galleries...."behave" themselves.

  23. There goes the right-wingers bringing Obama into their piss party. I fail to see what the President has to do with this. But then again its Bill Donohue we're talking about, the man is simply not rational.

  24. How very christ-like of him.

More correctly, how very ape of him. The primate house at the zoo is full of animals that like to play with sh*t.

  25. He's obviously not looked at the history at all. A good deal of Catholic art is not only a violation of the commandment against graven images, but a visual guide of torture and the profane--Serrano got that. Also, this was already done and more relevant in the 60's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist's_shit).

I almost wrote "isn't it cute when they try to do art", then I looked again. Nope.
