Faux-Christian Ministry 'Mission America' Publishes Hateful Guide to Homosexuality for Kids: READ IT

The faux-Christian anti-gay hate group Mission America and its leader Linda Harvey have published a Q + A for talking to kids about homosexuality.

HarveyNot surprisingly, it's rife with the worst kind of homophobia. You can read the full pamphlet below but here's some of its nonsense:

Gay is bad, bad, bad:

But once in a while, a man wants to date and love another man, or a woman wants to date and love a woman. Most cultures long ago decided this was very wrong. And they made rules against it, for a lot of good reasons (more grown-up stuff). First of all, two men can never create their own child. Neither can two women. And two men kissing– well, it just doesn’t seem right. That’s because it isn’t!

In fact, it's an abomination:

God had very, very strong words against homosexual conduct (Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27). So even though it’s not the only sin, it’s still a very serious one.

When Jesus came, He repeated what God said about marriage –that it should only be one man and one woman (Matthew 19:4-6). And we should not forget that Jesus was really God on earth, so He should know!

Never tell a kid that gay is okay, even if they're being bullied:

...it’s not right to tell someone that being homosexual is okay. The person may be feeling sad because of being bullied, but never try to make him or [sic] feel better by saying “gay” is okay. Kids who are overweight are sometimes bullied, too. And we might want to make that person feel better. But it would be a mistake to say that overeating is a good thing, right? So tell your friends, in a nice way, that no one needs to be “gay” or pretend to be the other gender. It’s not the right thing to do.

And homosexuality is a choice, just "strong feelings":

Some people claim they were “born” homosexual. But there is no well-accepted science that backs up that idea. Strong feelings are not proof of anything.

And here's Harvey's suggested usage for the pamphlet:

"Have you wished you could find a simple flyer for your older grade school or middle school children about homosexuality? Well, Mission America has developed one. It's clear, concise and provides a beginning basis for a more in-depth study later on. You can read and download it below. Feel free to print this as needed and give to your children, grandchildren, or your church group."

  1. Matthew 19 says nothing like what this supposed Christian is saying. Jesus is answering a question about whether a man and woman can get a divorce. He then answers that since god had put the man and woman together, no man can pull them apart, ie no divorce. Funny that this passage is a categorical biblical injunction against divorce, which christians don't care at all about, but instead lie and say that somehow it's related to gay marriage.

  2. "Some people claim they were “born” homosexual. But there is no well-accepted science that backs up that idea."

Since when did the Fundagelicals start accepting well-accepted scientific views about anything? For that matter, there's no well-accepted science that backs up the notion of "God".

  3. When they are systematically being misled, children always sense it.

A few of them buy into it. Tragically, some get tortured for long periods in "reparative" therapy. Also tragically, some die.

But that doesn't matter to Linda Harvey.

  5. "The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house." I think of this quote every time I see someone arguing biblical points with an anti-gay Christian person. These bigots don't hate gay people because of the Bible, but they do use the Bible as a rationalization device for their hatred. And you're not going to beat them at their own game.

  6. More Christo-fascist nonsense. People don't care what your book of fairy tales and little pamphlet says lady, but thanks for the laugh.

To quote John Waters, “I thank God I was raised Catholic, so sex will always be dirty.”

  7. yes, this woman should be held liable for child abuse.

you know, i've been rather miffed at how Dharun Ravi became the scapegoat for Tyler Clementi's death...not that his words and actions didn't contribute...BUT......THIS is the real cause.

in a culture where anti-gay prejudice like this is not only rewarded but PROMOTED by grown adults in religion and politics (cough cough GOP cough cough) then Ravi's brand of bigotry would have seemed like the behavior of some meaningless collegiate twerp.

as is, Ravi's actions were...what? the same things grown-adults are rewarded for in life? dont' bully a gay classmate or roommate, but grow up, become an adult, and preach even worse bigotry to the entire NATION?

linda harvey will do the world a favor when she dies.

women like harvey, and men like santorum and the other GOP bigots are the ones responsible for this culture that not only leads LGBT Youth to feel they have no hope and take their own lives, but also are the ones responsible for re-enforcing feelings of prejudice and bigotry in younger people like Ravi.

this woman is determined to see more LGBT youth die.

THIS is what needs to be attacked. attack it at the root.

  8. Well, the Matthew 19 quote couldn't be clearer. I'm not saying anything esoteric, there's no room for interpretation. It's written as a question about a man and woman divorcing, and jesus answering that the man and woman need to stay together. There is no way that can be interpreted in any other way. I'm not the least bit religious, but I can read, and this couldn't be clearer that she's lying.

  9. It is amazing that they quoted Matthew 19: 4-6. The passage relates to a question from a Pharisee regarding divorce. Christ answered with the oft repeated phrase (in wedding ceremonies)"Therefore what God has joined together let no one separate". HOWEVER, continue to read passage 7 and Christ speaks to divorce stating that any man who leaves his wife and marries another has committed adultery. You NEVER hear this repeated and you NEVER here anyone trying to poass laws against adultery OR divorce. These people are sick and Linda Harvey has the worst kind of sickness.

  10. It's amazing how hate can be disguised in such bland, seemingly non-threatening words.

There's nothing in that text about befriending those who are being bullied and tormented. Jesus did that, you know.

  11. What we really need is a pamphlet warning of the dangers of religion and belief in a deity.

  12. Today is a great day to remember that science flies you to the moon and religion flies you into buildings.

  13. Good quote, DearComrade. I love the quote about strong feelings are not proof of anything. She just described all of religion! I have strong feelings there is a God, but I have no proof. Therefore my strong feelings mean nothing. Did she stop to listen to her own words?

  14. I checked out their website, which is full of even more hateful articles by Linda. There is a comment area where I left a few links to the association of social workers and psychiatric associations. Perhaps we could flood their mailbox with "suggestions"

  17. "But there is no well-accepted science that backs up that idea. Strong feelings are not proof of anything."

She just precisely undermined the ENTIRE Christianist agenda, no?

    o.O

Her hypocrisy is despicable, but still not as bad as her hateful lies.

  18. "So even though it’s not the only sin, it’s still a very serious one" it actually says in the Bible that all sin is equal. If you're going to quote a book, you should read the whole thing

  19. "Some people claim they were “born” homosexual. But there is no well-accepted science that backs up that idea."

GUFFAW. Um, yes. Yes there is. The only way this quote is not a blatant lie if "well-accepted" is determined by extremely conservative ministers. Because, you know, they went to a school of theology to learn about human biology.

  21. Here we go again.

"Jesus was god on earth"......now how many gods do these people have ?
It's a simple question but the Christians don't seem to know.
The rant about three divine persons, equally distinct, but equal in all things...god the father, god the son and god the Holy Ghost.
Then the come up with some cockandbull about there being only one god.

Let's face it; we were all better off with Apollo, Dionysus, Athena, Artemis, Aphrodite, Zeus and a few others. At least they didn't go on about Leviticus and men with men and shellfish.

  24. NO! Gays are not bad. Linda Harvey IS bad in the same way that Hitler and his bloody minions were. She is pure HATE! Feel so sorry for her tiny band of listeners.

  25. Oddly, the level of argumentation used in this document for children is of about the same level of sophistication and complexity as is used for x-tian adults.

"Two men kissing? Ewww. It seems wrong because it IS wrong!"

Fundamentalists (of whatever religious persuasion) infantilize their followers in order to get them to subjugate their intellects, making it easier to deceive and control them. It's really not all that different from what less-accepted cults do when they brainwash their followers.
