Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) Walks Away from Interview After 'Ridiculous and Inappropriate' Questions About Gay Rumors

Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) was questioned by radio host Michelangelo Signorile last week about persisting rumors that he's gay and what his anti-gay votes might mean in that context, Signorile reports at HuffPost:

Asked on the floor of the RNC in an interview for my SiriusXM OutQ radio program to respond to those who’ve believed that Schock is gay and also view his vote against “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal as a vote against members of his own group, Schock responded, “Those questions are completely ridiculous and inappropriate.” He added, when asked if he is confirming that he is not gay, “I’ve said that before and I don’t think it’s worthy of further response. I think you can look it up.” Schock then walked off, abruptly ending the interview.

On why he voted against DADT repeal, Schock said: “I took the advice of military experts that came before Congress. I think that’s why you have John McCain and others who have a military background. Adam Kinzinger is a close personal friend of mine who’s an active duty member of Congress [in the district] next door to me and so I think that’s why you saw the consistency.”

Schock appeared uninformed when asked last week about marriage equality lawsuits in his home state and expressed disagreement with Obama's decision to not defend DOMA in court.

Schock, who has been accused of misusing campaign funds to further an exercise habit, flaunted the results of that regimen in a Men's Health cover story last May.

Many of the gay rumors surrounding Schock seem to be tied to his obsessive attention to his body, as well as that of other Republican congressmen. In June 2010, a photo of Schock at a White House picnic in white jeans, an aqua belt, and purple gingham shirt posted by Gawker (above) sent the gay rumors into overdrive. Schock later tweeted that he "burned the belt" after the photo went viral.

  1. "Look it up"

Code for: I constantly monitor my in-the-closet status via the Internet.

  2. I have seen claims on blogs that he has been sighted in gay bars in BOTH Chicago and DC. Certainly someone in those gays bars has a cell phone with a camera.

If those statements are true, he is apparently being protected by the patrons of those bars.

  3. Walking past a sexy men's underwear shop and a bathhouse in Tampa last week, he also said Paul Ryan should show off his body more often, but he said it in a totally not-gay way.

  4. He's pathetic. Everyone in Illinois knows that he's gay. I have no problems with self-loathers who go against gay rights being outed.

  5. Adam Kinzinger and Sister Shock here should just quit being straight and get to makin' gay alley butt babies already.

  8. I think it's great that Congressman Schock is serving as an example for other Republicans to emulate when it comes to being healthy. Physically healthy, that is, because it is not possible for a straight man, even one who's color-blind, to put together that combination of fuschia (or is it raspberry) plaid shirt, teal (not aqua) belt -- didn't you watch "The Devil Wears Prada"?! -- and tight white jeans. Sometimes you do have to believe your eyes.

  9. Well, it is not so much his fashion sense. But when questioned about his bold color and pattern combinations, he feels criticized and runs home to "burn the belt"!?!? Oh yeah, that's the typical hetero reaction.

  10. as a former constituent and acquaintance of Aaron, i do know that he is a very closeted adult who likes to play games in life by not following rules and basically ignoring rules, regs & laws. his record as school board rep & president are dismal, highlighted by his childish and petulant behaviors costing the district money and good service from good people.
his record in congress isn't as spectacular as he likes to put it out to be. the worst thing he did was fall in with the Bachman/Tea Party crowd. he took an office that has been represented in Congress by the three men preceding him as a true conservative & republican should. no more benefits to his constituents from bipartisanship and deals that favor both sides of an issue with out cancelling the other out. now the 18th is a pigsty of underfunded schools and social programs, and way too much pork-some say Byrd-esque in style and amount.
the fact that he is in a long-term relationship with another young man in Bartonville (an out of the way, sleepy, south of Peoria town) notwithstanding, i am not the only gay man from Peoria that can describe Aaron's bits to a mole. he will be out eventually, with or without being in control. he's wasting an enormous opportunity of working hard with Secratary LaHood of Transportation. Ray is his predecessor in Congress, and is the prime example of what service to your country first, constituency second is supposed to be.
i wish you well, little man. you looked great on grindr last week too. funny that no stalking was necessary to find you there. along with many other foolish men.

  13. I love how TMZ had the gay neighborhood in Tampa staked out, just to see if they could catch some closet-case Repugnicants out shopping for lube. I wonder if that was Schock's gay sex lover scurrying around in the background. If you are going to a theater for an "youth event", get a car to take you from the hotel to the stage door. Don't go strolling through the damn homo-district to get there. Unless you are a total gay-gay.

  17. Stay in the closet dude, ugh, your face could stop a train dead in its tracks. I say this because I loathe gay benedict arnolds, who pretend straight and vote anti-gay. You are a digusting disgrace to Illinoi.

  18. No, he's not gay... It's just natural for every straight man to look like the poster child for Aquanet.

  21. I don't know why people equate looking like him with being healthy.... there r tons of people who work out and eat (and take supplements and drugs) to LOOK a certain way, and nothing else.... he looks like that... now I am not saying that he is in worse health than a morbidly obese person, but he does not look natural... he looks sculpted, not athletic in my view.... and if u follow the link to the photo shoot, his chest looks like it is about to explode, round and smooth like a woman's silicon implant...

  22. The Congressman obviously has a lot of soul-searching to do. He'll do it on his own time, just like the rest of us have.

  23. I don't care what he does or says about the rumors, whether he comes out or lives the rest of his miserable life in the closet; he doesn't get a membership card and certainly doesn't get the toaster.

  24. If there was any doubt, this is what he told TMZ: “I think Paul's in great shape. I think a little bit of leaner attire to help accentuate that physique he works so hard to, you know, maintain.” Signed, sealed, delivered.
