1NewsIcon Former Jersey Shore star Angelina Pivarnick now says that same-sex couples should be able to get married, even though she said precisely the opposite just last week.

RomneyOhio1NewsIcon A new Obama campaign ad running in the crucial swing state of Ohio hits Mitt Romney on his infamous "let Detroit go bankrupt" op-ed, while another commercial from the president's reelection effort criticized the Republican rival's education policy. Meanwhile, Romney's campaign claims that a second Obama term would bring more debt, more taxes and general malaise.

1NewsIcon Justin Timberlake's got a ring on it.

1NewsIcon Republican Congressman Joe Walsh, an advocate of curbing illegal immigration with moats and alligators, said that marriage equality is a "socioeconomic issue". "Walsh argues that 'male-female, two-parent households' produce children who do better in school, stay away from drugs and are less likely to be in poverty," reports the Chicago Tribune.

Bigtex1NewsIcon RIP Big Tex.

1NewsIcon Just two days before Mitt Romney and President Obama's debate on foreign policy, officials say that Iran has agreed to nuclear talks. From the Times: "The United States and Iran have agreed for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, according to Obama administration officials, setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran."

1NewsIcon A profile on Elizabeth Emken, the GOP Senate candidate from California: "Prior to her friendship with Diaz, Emken had a similarly intense friendship with Tim Radi, a fellow member of the group, not realizing that he too would later come out as gay. 'It was the same pattern as with me,' Diaz states. 'She had intense feelings for him, but he didn’t want to date her. It was as if history were repeating itself.'"

1NewsIcon In addition to allegations that she fixed the school's state-based ratings, a Queens principal named Nancy Casella is accused of making racist, homophobic and other offensive comments.

Kluwe1NewsIcon Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe made good and debated marriage equality with empty chairs representing various anti-gay foes, including Michele Bachmann. To Bachmann's lie that same-sex marriage will lead "all schools teaching homosexuality," whatever that even means, Kluwe responded, "I would say that that is a flat out falsehood. What we'll be teaching our children is tolerance. We'll be teaching our children that it is okay to be who you are." And to the argument that marriage equality is "redefining marriage," Kluwe says, "We're not redefining marriage to take away someone's rights. We're redefining marriage to give someone rights. It's about freedom." Video here. I'll try to find an embeddable version.

  1. The problem with television celebrities is that they are not real people. They are manufactured entities. Their views vary according to the prevailing winds. I'm still stunned that we in the gay community still idolize these people.

Many of these television types have several faces, not one.

  2. I will miss Big Tex "talking" the the crowd. RIP It is one of my favorite childhood memories. I do not miss my life in Texas. I moved at 25.

  3. Mitt Romney. Not One Of Us.
    Approved by Barack Obama.

Yes. Yes, I'm sure it was. How desperately sad.

  4. Big Tex looked a little too much like Governor-for-Life Rick Perry, although Tex had that look first. Maybe Big Tex II can be blond.

  5. Anastasia, if Big Tex had been Rick Perry he would have electrocuted an innocent man with an IQ of 60 when he shorted out and burned down!

The article about Elizabeth Emken is interesting. From serial dater of proto-gays (in CHOIR, no less!) to gay rights foe, but she completely can't understand why her oldest friends would feel betrayed by her political stances!

  6. @Jason

If you mean Kluwe, then you, quite frankly, don't have a clue. Chris has been incredibly active in the fight for marriage equality in Minnesota, as well as having written on the topic on his blog and on twitter. He is an intelligent, genuine, compassionate, and well spoken man.

Also, what good does discounting the support of a celebrity do? Or it is simply the fact that it pads your ego to attempt to make yourself seem superior to others?

  7. I'm supposed to believe that Big Tex just burst into flames?

What are the leading conspiracy theories on the arson of Big Tex?

  8. Some day there should be a "FLIP-FLOPPERS" Convention for those people( mostly Republicans behaving badly) who been seen with their own foot in their mouths in front of an open microphone and camera.

  10. Chris Klewe is an incredible human being. His kids are so lucky to have such a wonderful young man be their parents. WE are lucky to have him fighting on our side.

  12. My arteries are feeling a little clogged. I wonder where I can get some Plavix?

    Posted by: NaughtyLola | Oct 21, 2012 12:43:17 PM

  13. Thanks, Kluwe, for standing up for us again. I am very tired of having the statistics of the Netherlands or Scandinavia being used as proof of the societal problems of marriage equality. Gee, it looks like those trend lines started way before any form of marriage equality was granted. While you focused on the error of correlation does not imply causation, I prefer looking at the error as "post hoc".

BTW - Can we get rid of this Plavix spam?

  14. Anytime a non-republican celebrity comes out in support of the LGBT community in any way, Jason insists said effort is disingenuous, and will then go on to talk about how all women hate gay men and blah blah blah. Because Jason is a troll and has no use for facts or reality. It just wants to incite an argument. Because he's the worst.

Also the worst is Markus, the anti-Obama troll, who is either payed by the Romney campaign to troll or is just a bitter GOP closet case.

Either way, both trolls are pathetic and should be ignored. Do not engage.

  17. Ok Kluwe, time to move on. Do not let this derail and destroy your career like it did Ben Cohen. Thanks for being a pal but get back to your life.
