Boehner Gives 30-Second 'Fiscal Cliff' Press Conference, Runs: VIDEO

Boehner

Here's today's "fiscal cliff" face-off.

John Boehner held a 30-second press conference this afternoon, saber-rattling at Obama's morning press conference in which the President said he'd gone far enough in compromising and Republicans should meet him on it.

DailyKos:

Then, less than two hours after the president's plea for compromise, John Boehner essentially offered up his middle finger in response, saying that on Thursday, House Republicans will pass his "Plan B" to extend Bush tax cuts for everyone earning up to $1 million per year and that if President Obama refuses to support it, he "will be responsible for the biggest tax increase in American history."

And, according to polls, most folks will blame Republicans if a deal fails.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

  2. MEANWHILE, THEY HOLD CHRISTMAS HOSTAGE.....
Are people who fear that we'll go over the cliff going to spend freely?

  3. The Democrats need to hold town hall "Fiscal Cliff" meetings and do to the GOP what they did to the Dems on healtcare. Use the election momento to shut them down and ensure a clean sweep in mid-term elections. At the very least EVERY SINGLE Democratic rep should be out there ranting and raving that these pseudo conservatives refuse to give a tax hike to the rich without sacrificing the already fragile social floor that we have built up for this country.

  4. Boehner is such a snake. He doesn't care about Americans - he is just using this situation to promote his own profile. He is loving being center stage and he's lapping up all the attention. This is how short men behave - he isn't used to getting attention in the real world.

  8. @Jackfkntwist, I was thinking there could have been one more flag, to make sure we understand his point.
Gop is so lost and right wing.

  9. Two questions -- Who's paying for Obama's awards (TIME, Nobel), and where has George Clooney vanished to?

  10. One question - who's paying for Gary to Troll (Towleroad)?

  11. Gary, known anti-Obama troll, you're still here? You just can't accept that he won, can you? Sad troll is sad.

  13. You can pack up "troll" with "Call Me Maybe" for 2012. People have the right to say what they want on a chat line, regardless of the little "agree with me" crowd that might not be able to handle it. You have no flexibility, depth or humor. Too bad for you.

  15. The problem is that nobody knows what the details are that have been agreed upon. However, it won't matter too much. Essentially, once the bill passes that ends the "fiscal cliff" they can go back to doing whatever they want. There is never an end to the negotiating or posturing.

  16. You'll be hearing from me in June, when the Supreme Court freaks you out. Has anyone engaged??

  17. I'm hoping that a few of the Republicans turn to holding their breath the next time they have a tantrum.
Considering the age and physical condition of most of them that might be the perfect way to rid the party of a few whiners.
Between Trump, and Boehner and Romney And the group and their little outbursts Im beginning to think a prerequisite of being a member is being a sore loser.
They need to come to turns the tides are turning and they have had their turn.
Americans are no longer interested in their bad politics.

  18. Republicans seem intent on using threats as their opprotunity to try and get what they want done their way.
It was President with the largest deficit "in history",
Largest unemployment "in history", largest tax increase "in history"
I'm soooooo tired of their school yard antics.

  19. @GARY (or Marcus?): yeah, you can say what you want. But at least say something that has to do with the topic at hand. Don't throw out things that have nothing to do with the what is being discussed. Oh, and at least have some facts to back up your tantrums.

  20. It sounds like the Republicans are still using the polling firm that Romney used.

Remember that they haven't yet fully accepted that Obama won re-election.

  21. Every time I see a Republican standing in front of a whole bunch of American flags I know they are trying to bully and BS the country into giving them power they don't have and aren't entitled to. It all started with George W. Bush in the Florida recount. Now they are desperate because they know the demographics are against them.

  24. I think Boehner intends to weave the flags into a parachute to rescue himself from the fiscal cliff.
