It is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States. For example, the president could conceivably have no choice but to authorize the military to use such force if necessary to protect the homeland in the circumstances like a catastrophic attack like the ones suffered on December 7, 1941, and September 11, 2001."

send her a message or twenty on facebook. note, she says that if you say anything "mean" or "stupid" you will be banned. ironic, eh?

a woman whose life revolves around saying hateful things about LGBT people, which she then "backs up" with the most inane insults to logic and intelligence.

    flood her. keep her busy.

And Bruni is right. I dont' care who disagrees with my saying this, but Dharun Ravi had less to do with Tyler Clementi's suicide than the grown-adult politicians and religious leaders in America (and the world) who do nothing but perpetuate a culture of bigotry and prejudice and hatred.

In a world where gay wasn't still linked to "horrible! Bad! Sinful! you're damned to hell! you're an embarrassment!" then Ravi's words and actions would have been meaningless bratty nothings in a vacuum.

trickle-down economics may be bogus; trickle-down bigotry aint.

Santorum says it - his followers cheer and repeat it - they pass it on to their own kids, gay and straight, and then we have this culture of not just The Closet, but suicides and bullying, and finger-pointing.
Being anti-gay won't mean your kids are straight. It'll only mean you run a high risk of losing your child, either to suicide or they go away to school and learn and grow and have nothing but embarrassed shame about being related to you.

NOM - sigh.... brian brown has 8 kids. they aint all straight. do you ever wonder if Maggie Gallagher has sat and wondered if maybe devoting her life to anti-gay prejudice would lead a potentially-gay child of hers (cough cough cough) to never feel safe enough to Come Out to her? heck - she's probably counting on it.

the You Can Play project is just too wonderful. we're seeing more and more eloquent and compassionate grown men i professional sports showing that a real man means standing up for those who are oppressed and misjudged by society. well met. all welcome.

  2. I am so sick of Michael Vick coverage! He went to prison, paid his dues, move on! Unless you are a vegetarian, you have no room to vilify! Over 9 billion animals are killed annually for human consumption (that doesn't include fur and skin trading.) Most of those animals suffer just as much as any fighting dogs. Yes, we eat animals, and in some people's mind that makes the deaths justifiable, but it is not vital to human existence, you can survive without meat. Why is a dogs life so much more important than a cow, pig, horse or fish? Why can I feed rabbits and rats to a boa constrictor all day but as soon as you throw it a puppy you become a lifetime felon and social pariah? I will never understand these arbitrary classifications.

  4. well... for a little nuance, there's a weeeee bit of a difference between eating animals for food, and dogfighting as a means of placing bets and making illegal money.

not that i'm condoning the utterly appalling Food Inc treatment of animals, but ...um...an underground dogfighting ring aint the same as operating a pig farm.

  5. Guess the clowns in the DOJ and the Obama regime forgot about the Due Process clause of the Constitution. I hate to admit it, maybe the right-wingers have a point about losing us Constitutional Rights. Beginning to think voting for Obama was a mistake. Our founding fathers must be turning over in their graves since 9/11.

  6. Obama is continuing W. Bush's foreign policy but with better success- shudder. We should all be concerned about this government overreach, especially if the GOP ever retake the White House.

  7. Michael Vick murdered dogs for fun and money, still being pissed off at him is not an overreaction, BECAUSE HE MURDERED DOGS FOR FUN AND MONEY.

He has the pedophile problem, Kill or don't? Pedophiles can reform (Anyone can), but do you want them reformed? Most don't, meaning they would rather kill the guy but don't want to go that far. Vick is in the same boat, he did a HORRIBLE thing, forgive or murder. People will only fall into one or the other.

  8. I really don't understand why people don't reject the Bible and all its silliness entirely. I mean even if you believe there is, or was, a Creator it does not all ALL follow that a book started by Bronze Age desert nomads and finished by power-seeking religious obsessives expanding on the teachings of a man they never actually met tells you a single TRUE thing about that entity. OK, so an all-powerful entity pulled the universe and all reality out of nothing but all he has to do is worry about how much praise and worship his creations heap upon Him? Kinda needy for an omnipotent being, don't you think?

And that's without even going into the blatant plagiarism from other, previous belief systems, and all the other biblical "laws" we've wisely dismissed as archaic and..... well, stupid.

  9. to add on to that, Caliban, when the new Pope gets elected, frankly, I don't care what his stance on gays is gonna be.

here's my meter for Catholics: Do you believe the more than 6 million Jews exterminated in the Holocaust are in "Hell" for eternity for not accepting Jesus Christ as their personal lord and savior and the one true son of God? because if you do i have less respect for you than the rats that live in the NY Subway.

Posted by: Little Kiwi | Mar 6, 2013 4:09:10 PM

  10. Kiwi - I see what you are saying, but.... How is Vick's choice to kill dogs for entertainment and profit any different than Butterballs choice to kill turkeys for enjoyment (eating) and profit? Neither activity is vital to human existence. So again, why is he any worse than the meat processors and consumers who contribute to thd deaths of billions of animals who most often die in agony? Last I checked Vick didn't kill or contibute to the killingsof billions of animals.

    Posted by: cdubois | Mar 6, 2013 5:26:30 PM

  11. you mean the difference between eating meat to eat and putting two dogs against one another in a violent cage match so that humans can place bets (illegally) and profit off of a dog dying?

unless you're putting all non-vegetarians or non-vegans in the same file as "people who run illegal dog-fighting rings" i'm not sure what your question is.

that's a massive leap, and one not exactly layered with nuance.

are you defending Vick or implicating all the non-vegetarians of the world?

    specifics, please.

  17. Cdubois, i get the vegetarian perspective: trust, i do.

but we have to be intellectually honest here: the non-vegetarians of the world, as unaware as they may be, are simply not comparable to underground dogfighting rings.

as badly treated as animals are in most (all!?) Big Food Inc slaughterhouses - it's not as if there's a cheering crowd watching the animals die.

dogfighting is purely for "sport" - ugh, i hate that i just used that word. it's a sick hobby and illegal gambling activity - watching an animal die. for coin.
