1. andrew says

I expected to enjoy that. I didn’t. The visuals were great but the constant vulgar language was awful. This video is an embarrassment to the Royal Norwegian Coast Guard or it should be.

  2. lukebrux says

Andrew, it’s diffent culture from the US one, sex isn’t so “nasty” on the contrary violence is far less accepted that in US. It’s the Norwegian army, the worst thing that can happen to these guys is to have an accident during a training.

  3. says

I didn’t see it as “Blackface.” I thought it was a mud pack facial masque. He had a towel wrapped around his head.

  4. Josh says

Andy will post anything with a glimpse of boy skin. Feeding the gay stereotype. All very tongue in cheek of course.

  5. TomTallis says

When you are patrolling in the winter where it’s light for only an hour a day, the tanning bed is a necessity so they get their vitamin D. Those boys are too pale to actually tan!

My Norwegian mother would have loved that video.

  6. Dastius Krazitauc says

Towleroad posts a video full of language that would get our comments banned if we were to use it here.

  7. Chris says

I didnt t think it was black face, his head was in a turban I think and he was wrapped in a towel, I thought it was like a “spa day” mud mask thing.
As for the guy complaining about language, these are sailors !!! Regardless of nationality “curse like a sailor” is basically the epitome of cursing, and all they were doing is lip synching a lonely island song, lighten up.
Only on a gay blog could you find someone to complain about sailors using naughty words.

  8. antisaint says

Uh.. the song is called “I’m On a Boat,” and it’s by The Lonely Island, which is a comedy group featuring Adamn Sandler. They just made their own video for it.

    Original video –

Those of you too prude for “bad words” should maybe direct your anger there instead.

    That wasn’t blackface.

  9. scott says

I weep for the younger generation if that is their idea of music.

On the other hand, the Norwegian sailors were seriously cute!

  10. andrew says

@Chris: I’m a Navy Veteran. I did one tour of duty during which I served on a Destroyer for three. I realize that sailors, myself included, use “naughty” words. However in this video almost every other word was vulgar. It is or should be an embarrassment to the Royal Norwegian Coast Guard.

  11. mike128 says

Guys… that’s a bunk on a boat, not a tanning bed. Do you really think the coast guard has tanning beds for sailors on their boats? It’s not a gay cruise.

  12. andrew says

@Antisaint: One doesn’t have to be a “prude” to object to the constant drumbeat of vulgar language in this video.

  13. Michel Filion says

Mike128… it is a tanning bed! They are very popular in northern countries since they get very little light for long periods of the year.

  14. UFFDA says

Ya, lots of toxic queens, always.

This probably is an embarrasement to the Norwegian CG. It was OK in a self-concious kind of way, the tune sucked with the language. The setting was great…but tanning beds (LOL) and “blackface” – get a life! you over urbanized losers. It was just hijinks.

  15. Artie_in_Lauderdale says

The guy was very obviously wearing a mud-pack facial mask. He also had his hair wrapped up in a towel, turban style, like in a beauty salon. Duh. Cute video.

  16. andrew says

Mike28: I think its a bunk at 1.02 but the guy in the green shorts at 0.45 is getting out of some kind of a tanning bed.

  17. bcarter3 says

I’m with @ANDREW on this. It’s not prudity to be offended by stupidity and lack of imagination.

Loved the images; hated the lowest-common-denominator audio.

  18. SamIam says

What a bunch of super PC puzzies you guys are. There are no tanning beds there. And they weren’t in blackface.

Some of you are such sensitive sallys, it’s sad.

  19. Randal Oulton says

I’m guessing most of the profanity in question is courtesy of the American song being played… lol.

  20. says

Def a tanning bed. Stop it at :44 Bunks don’t have a fold down LID.
Not blackface at all. Mud pack/hair in a towel. Beauty treatment.

Love your energy, and your adorable faces. And the ‘boat’ was awesome.
Makes me wanna enlist. I say do another one, Guyz.

Now. What I wanna know … how many and which ones of these adorable Norwegian cuties are Family?

  21. Miss Prissy says

OMG!!! One of the white guys was in blackface!! Contact the Political Correctness Police immediately.

  22. walter says

god lighten up they did as a spoof of an already written song. and men in the service curse get over it . they were have fun . when you are a ship especially in the waters that cold and there is very little day light you do what you can for a good time .

  23. Zwarte Piet says

Not blackface, not a mudpack…it’s a character called Zwarte Piet(Black Peter), a companion to St Nicholas…

Zwarte Piet (pronounced [‘zʋɑrtə pit], “Black Pete”; French: Père Fouettard [pɛʁ fwɛtaʁ], “Father Whip”) is a companion of Saint Nicholas (Dutch: Sinterklaas) in the folklore of the Low Countries, whose yearly feast in the Netherlands is usually celebrated on the evening of 5 December (Sinterklaasavond, that is, St. Nicholas’ Eve) and 6 December in Belgium, when they distribute sweets and presents to all good children.
The characters of Zwarte Pieten appear only in the weeks before Saint Nicholas’s feast, first when the saint is welcomed with a parade as he arrives in the country (generally by boat, having traveled from Madrid, Spain). The tasks of the Zwarte Pieten are mostly to amuse children, and to scatter pepernoten, kruidnoten and strooigoed (special sinterklaas candies) for those who come to meet the saint as he visits stores, schools, and other places.
The original Zwarte Piet is sometimes associated with Knecht Ruprecht, but in the Low Countries the tradition has not merged with Christmas.

  24. kingsNOmore says

that was cute! now let’s see if the US Navy can post a video lipsynching in Norwegian! ….Japanese?! …Spanish?!
    naaahh, didn’t think so

  25. emjayay says

Pretty amusing, commenters getting all incensed about the lyrics in a lipsynched American comedy song be some Saturday Night Live related guys. The Penis in a Box guys. Someone has pretty good film (do we have a new word?)and editing technique. And those guys spent a lot more time on this than it looks.

David Sedaris has a story about the black guy who comes at Christmas I think in the Netherlands (?), and has recorded a reading of it.

  26. PhillyDee says

With the sound turned off, it’s great!
Who told these guys that that kind of noise was something they should use as background?
It’s one of the the worst possible things we can export — nobody sane or with an ounce of taste would listen to such crap.
But the guys were nice to look at — almost all of them.
And for those who think it’s the language that’s offensive — think again: the piece of what? (I hesitate to say music) was not offensive it was tasteless and idiotic (just like Adam Sandler and others who make that kind of noise for distribution).
Look at the video for “Call Me Maybe” by the soldiers. Now that was a class act!

  27. andrew says

KINGSNOMORE: If sailors in the U.S.Navy made a vulgar/tasteless video like this, you can be sure that they would be, quite properly, reprimanded in some way. However, you must have missed a very clever dance and lip sync that the Navy Midshipmen did over a year ago to Psy’s hit: “Call Me Maybe”.

  28. Steve Talbert says

NEWS FLASH TO SMALL TOWN NURSING HOME RESIDENTS….The sailors were lip sinking to a song about a boat. It wasn’t them saying the words. They didn’t write words.

Probably some dont even speak English all that well, so to them it might seem harmless like saying I’ll have a bloody Mary, or something. Actual rap music is far coarser, misogynistic, and homophobic.

Cute video by mostly straight guys around 20. What were you expecting, something from glee?

  29. andrew says

@Steve Talbert I sure agree with your comment that “actual rap music is coarser, misogynistic and homophobic”.

  30. bravo says

How dare they lip sync to a vulgar American song. This is unacceptable. I cannot believe this was posted. I am opposed to vulgarities in American music.

  31. Matteo says

LOVE Norway and Norwegians. The culture and mindset is fun. Relaxed people and hope those who watch this just enjoy and stop analyzing. Welcome to Norge!

  32. andrew says

@HOMER: “I really don’t think”. If you had ended your sentence there, I would totally agree with you!!!

  33. Rob says

Heavens! Oh my goodness the language in this video is so vulgar, get me my vapours!!!!
Jeez some of you prissy gays make me laugh my head off, so judgemental and snide with your comments.
They didn’t write the song they simply made a parody / homage video to it, get over yourselves and just appreciate some cute young guys having a tongue-in-cheek moment.

Crawl back under your rocks you came from and stop filling up the internet with your bile hatred.

  34. Matias says

Well it’s fun for those young guys and it looked done with tongue in cheek attitude. I wouldn’t make too deep and serious analyses.

  35. octobercountry says

Well, you guys made me curious to watch this, but the video has disappeared completely. Anybody know where it can be viewed?

  36. Bobby says

Video was removed. Damn it! I needed naked men and vulgar language today. The nuns and virgins complaining about the language should probably visit the Disney website or read their bible and leave the rest of us alone.

  37. Acronym Jim says

You’re right. That’s not a tanning bed at .44. It’s a coffin for suicidal vampires.

  38. scooternva says

Probably removed because the sailor got in deep, deep trouble for posting it. A pity.

  39. andrew says

@Rob: “Prissy gays”, “judgemental and snide with your comments”, “crawl back under your rocks”, “stop filling the internet with your bile hatred”. BILE HATRED? All this in response to myself and a couple others who thought the video language was vulgar and an embarrassment for the Royal Norwegian Coast Guard. Over react much??? Ask yourself why you are so intolerant of differing opinions.

  40. Buster says

Josh — yes, it’s terrible all this sexual posting on a blog that’s SUPPOSED to focus on homo….what? really? oh..SEXuality.

By the way, why did YOU read this post, what caught your eye? Much have been your interest in solar tanning bed technologies, right?

  41. James says

Does anyone know where I can download or just watch this? The video has been removed from YouTube ;(

  42. ratbastard says

Pale white Scandinavians don’t tan? Bullsh*t. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s actually clear and sunny much of time, and even in winter, the snow reflects sun and UV rays and you can get a great tan. And water also reflects and magnifies sunlight. The best tans I’ve ever gotten have been been on overcast days on the ocean.

When there’s not enough daylight and sun, they need the tanning beds for vitamin D. Interestingly, vitamin D deficiency is a huge problem in America and elsewhere, even though most Americans in the lower 48 live in fairly southerly latitudes [Boston is 42 degrees north, same as Barcelona and far more southerly than London, Paris,Berlin and and northern/central Europe in general; even Montreal is only 45 degree north which considerably more southerly than Paris]. The problem is most people spend little time outdoors, in the sun, and when they do they cover up, wear sunglasses and often sun block for fear of skin cancer. It’s especially bad for darker skinned and dark eyed people because they need far more sun exposure to produce Vitamin D than pale skin and light color eyed people.

  43. Robert says

Well, the video’s gone, but apparently I discovered something about myself! I have a mild foot fetish. I can’t take my eyes off of that guy’s foot in the screenshot. What a cute guy. GRRRR.
