Gay Adoption | Gay Parents | Ralph Reed

Ralph Reed and Franklin Graham Demonize Gay Families on Easter Edition of 'This Week': VIDEO

Reed

Franklin Graham and Ralph Reed brought their anti-gay hate to ABC's This Week today, in a discussion about gay adoption and gay parenting, introduced by focusing on Russia's draconian adoption laws.

Said Reed: “The social science on this is clear. This isn’t about Vladimir Putin, this is about what’s best for children here in the United States. The social science is irrefutable: a child who grows up in a home without the mother and father present, and they both very unique procreative, nurturing, and socializing roles, they’re nine times more likely to end up dropping out of high school; they’re five times more likely to end up in poverty; and they’re three times more likely to end up addicted to drugs and alcohol.”

Said Cokie Roberts: “But the social science is also irrefutable that a child raised in an orphanage is in much worse shape than a child raised in a home. And the fact that people are willing to take these children and raise them, and raise them in a loving way, is clearly better for these children.”

Asked Martha Raddatz: “Would you agree with that? Would you rather have a child sitting in an orphanage than have gay parents?

Said Reed: “I think the social science is just simply not in yet on same-sex couples. I think the law has every right to set an ideal. And the ideal is a mother and a father.”

  1. What an outrage Reed could peddle such blatant lies about science and go largely unchallenged. The science done by *scientists* peer reviewed by *scientists* in *science* journals (vs. mere law journals) unambiguously shows children adopted by gays and lesbians do just as well as by heterosexuals. Anyone with access to Google Scholar can go and find the facts - for instance, here: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/10926750903313278#.U1RdFVdBpEI

It's just unbelievable nobody challenged Reed seriously. He's citing the pseudo-science his pet hate groups put out. If ABC wanted to host such a discussion, it should have done its homework beforehand. Reporting the truth is their job, and they failed.

  2. So the social science "is clear" when he's making his argument, but when he's called out on it the social science "is just simply not in yet"?

    Well, isn't that special?

  3. It's no better than the SC mayor who said he'd rather have a drunk take care of his children than to have "someone whose lifestyle is questionable (gay or lesbian) around children." They're supposed to be doing the work of the Lord yet they seem to be doing evil works. So much for so called "Christians."

  4. Exactly, what sort of journalist does NOT call out these frauds on their lies.
And when Ralph makes an argument the social science is IN, and when someone counters him, the social science is out.
Idiot. If you are going to bring on a hater, at least call him on his b.s.

  5. funny, that most or all these right wingers don't believe in science or research, but of course, if it supports their so called thinking, especially on gay issues, that is about the only time they will quote science

  7. Franklin Graham and Ralph Reed aren't Christians. They are evil men possessed by the devil and hate.

  8. Families are the like whacky little armies ,with no oversight. Dolls will sustain no lasting damage. Play house with dolls, not people. Family is not all it's cracked up to be You might want to check out the latest film from Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts--purely from the entertainment angle of course.

  9. when anti-gay pundits speak, and 'authority figures' who are supposed to be balanced and objective do a weak job challenging them (on purpose?), the whole scene just becomes an exercise in strengthening anti-gay attitudes and lies about gays. it's called attitude inoculation.

  11. So if a(n opposite sex) parent passes away, the child should be taken away from the other parent? Well, that's the "logical" conclusion of such a statement.

  13. What the heck is wrong with ABC for giving these bigots a forum without any refuting from a reputable source?

  14. cokie roberts is the only human being in that group of guests. this was a good clip as it showed how awful these christian leaders come off. i don't think most people watching this would consider them kind and compassionate.

  18. Video is down, but ABC's site has it here:

    http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/video/week-religious-23398798

What a revolting segment. How is it that on a discussion about Easter, there isn't equal time given to atheists? How come on a segment largely about gay people, there isn't equal time given to ... gay people? How come on a segment discussing social science, there isn't equal time given to social scientists? How come on a segment about politics, equal time isn't given to politicians?

When Cokie Roberts is the pro-gay one (hey, at least we're better than an orphanage) something's gone horribly wrong.

This show needed about three Ricky Gervais to make any sense.

  19. Unbelievable is right! There are PLENTY of data that show that gay and lesbian parents raise children who fare just as well if not better than those raised by heterosexuals. WHERE was the social scientist who is familiar with this literature on the panel? This idiot, who knows nothing but a perverted interpretation of scripture that has been brainwashed into his head, was essentially allowed to spew his garbage rhetoric unopposed.

  20. Franklin Graham and his sidekick-raphie-
are bigots, liars and in the case of Franklin-just like his dear old dad Billy- a virulent anti-semite. They are full of hate and use their belief in skygods as an excuse to bilk people out of money and spread fear and hate.

  21. CBS had "his Excellency" Timothy Blowhard Dolan so I switched to ABC with this clown car of discrimination. I shut it off and went to their Facebook page which gratefully was full of comments from folks that felt just as I did.

    What is wrong with ABC?

  22. It is outrageous to see these haters invited on to spout misleading statements without a real challenge.
Yes, studies show that kids raised by their biological male and female parents have more advantages than another group WHICH INCLUDES KIDS RAISED BY ONE PARENT, IN ORPHANAGES, IN GROUP HOMES, AND ON THE STREETS.

But the misleading part is that he doesn't mention that kids raised from birthby two SAME-SEX parents ALSO have those advantages compared to "all others," which includes kids raised in orphanages, in group homes or on the streets.
The "studies" these invited guests refer to never have anything to do with same-sex couples.

Allowing this sort of propaganda to be broadcast without correction is costing people their lives, especially as it is repeated in countries like Russia and Uganda.

  23. The Christian religion is entirely bullcrap and the Catholic Church needs to be banned from the U.S. It's pretty simple people - why don't you get it? Why is it you continue to believe in utter nonsense like Noah and his Arc and the Bible itself? How can you be so stupid?

  24. Shame on ABC for only giving the country one 'view'. If you're going to have hate mongers like Reed and Graham on you should an opposing view. Michaelangelo Signorile or Evan Wolfson for example would have done just fine. Either one would have kicked Reed's in the closet ass.

  25. They see the end of the gay-hate cash cow and are trying to milk the last few cents out of it before the game is over. Ralph Reed is a liar and Franklin Graham is a parasite.
