'Anonymous' Hacks Syrian Ministry of Defense Website

Hacker group Anonymous took over the website of the Syrian Ministry of Defense website (which is still down as of this posting), replacing text on its front page with a message:

“To the Syrian people: The world stands with you against the brutal regime of Bashar Al-Assad. Know that time and history are on your side - tyrants use violence because they have nothing else, and the mor violent they are, the more fragile they become. We salute your determination to be non-violent in the face fo the regime's brutality, and admire your willingness to purse justice, not mere revene. All tyrants will fall, and thanks to your bravery Bashar Al-Assad is next. … To the Syrian military: You are responsible for protecting the Syrian people, and anyone who orders you to kill women, children, and the elderly deserves to be tried for treason. No outside enemy could do as much damage to Syria as Bashar Al-Assad has done. Defend your country — rise up against the regime!”

Watch: Westboro Baptist Church's Margie Phelps Responds to Questions About 'Anonymous' Hacking

Under a cascade of flickering rainbow lights, Margie Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church participated in a Q&A at the College Media Advisers’ 2011 spring college media convention, held in New York City last week, where she was asked questions about the recent Supreme Court decision, the First Amendment, and her law degree.

Phelps responded with anger when asked about the church's website being taken down by hacker group Anonymous (the '' site is still down, or severely disabled, btw).

Hacker Group Anonymous Announces Leaks of Documents Related to Bank of America Mortgage Fraud

Hacker group Anonymous, has unleashed a set of tweets with links that reportedly contain information detailing fraud at B of A. It was rumored earlier this year that BofA was a subject of forthcoming information from Julian Assange's site Wikileaks. No word on if the operations are related.

Forbes Parmy Olson writes:

Anonymous, the global hacktivist collective, has this morning released e-mails that it says expose fraud at Bank of America. The emails are between the user of Twitter account @OperationLeakS and an anonymous former employee of Balboa Insurance, which used to be a subsidiary of Bank of America, discussing improper mortgage processes at the bank. Forbes writer Halah Touryalai posts some of the email conversation here, but links within the original site appear not to be working. It’s “tough to tell if there’s anything truly damning in the e-mails,” writes Touryalai.

The Anonymous Twitter site is HERE.

Westboro Baptist Church Website Brought Down by Hackers

The Westboro Baptist Church site and its site continue to be down following an apparent siege by hackers.

A hacker named The Jester took credit yesterday:

The self-proclaimed activist revealed in a twitter update that he had torn into the Church's website in protests against its pickets on the funerals of American servicemen with anti-gay signs. " – TANGO DOWN. Temporarily. For celebrating the death of US troops – honeypot fail btw" the update read.

The Jester shot to fame with denial of service attacks against WikiLeaks around the time the site released US diplomatic cables late last year.

If you missed my post the other day, the attacks apparently began as David Pakman interviewed WBC's Shirley Phelps-Roper. Watch the video HERE.

Feast of Fun interviews Phelps-Roper about the attacks in a new podcast.

Anonymous Hacker Group Suggests Westboro Baptist Church Made Up Threat Claims for Publicity

The hacker group Anonymous has written a letter (written by more than 20 Anons, at the same time, and none of them were inbred family members. Unlike that other, shitty "Press Release") refuting claims it's going after Westboro Baptist Church, and accused the group of making up claims of an attack for their own publicity.

Westboro Baptist Church Responds to Takedown Threat from Hacker Group Anonymous: 'Bring It!'

This week, the hacker group Anonymous, which has successfully disabled sites associated to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak  as well as sites like Visa in the name of Wikleaks founder Julian Assange, and the Church of Scientology, issued an ultimatum to the Topeka, Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church.

Wbc Said Anonymous in an open letter:

We, the collective super-consciousness known as ANONYMOUS - the Voice of Free Speech & the Advocate of the People - have long heard you issue your venomous statements of hatred, and we have witnessed your flagrant and absurd displays of inimitable bigotry and intolerant fanaticism. We have always regarded you and your ilk as an assembly of graceless sociopaths and maniacal chauvinists & religious zealots, however benign, who act out for the sake of attention & in the name of religion.

Being such aggressive proponents for the Freedom of Speech & Freedom of Information as we are, we have hitherto allowed you to continue preaching your benighted gospel of hatred and your theatrical exhibitions of, not only your fascist views, but your utter lack of Christ-like attributes.

They added:

ANONYMOUS cannot abide this behavior any longer. The time for us to be idle spectators in your inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex, and we shall now be moved to action. Thus, we give you a warning: Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes in Kansas, & close your public Web sites.

Should you ignore this warning, you will meet with the vicious retaliatory arm of ANONYMOUS: We will target your public Websites, and the propaganda & detestable doctrine that you promote will be eradicated; the damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover. It is in your best interest to comply now, while the option to do so is still being offered, because we will not relent until you cease the conduction & promotion of all your bigoted operations & doctrines.

The warning has been given. What happens from here shall be determined by you.
