Yesterday I posted about a letter from Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida signed by 76 House Democrats calling on the President to immediately halt gay military discharges. Here's the White House response, via The Advocate:
"President Obama
remains committed to a legislative repeal of Don't
Ask, Don't Tell, which he believes will provide a durable
and lasting solution to this issue. He welcomes the
commitment of these members to seeing Congress take
action."
Read the complete letter HERE.
Lives are being ruined by this policy. As was noted yesterday again, the President has the power to halt discharges until the issue can be resolved legally. But it appears symbolic cocktail parties are its focus at the moment.
