Presidential hopeful Rick "frothy mix" Santorum spoke at an engagement for Iowa's conservative anti-gay group The Family Leader on Monday morning, and told them that adopting children is a "privilege" to which gay people are not entitled, the Wonk Room reports.
Said Santorum:
"A lesbian woman came up to me and said, ‘why are you denying me my right?' I said, ‘well, because it's not a right.' It's a privilege that society recognizes because society sees intrinsic value to that relationship over any other relationship."

UPDATE: Nancy Pelosi today condemned Santorum's remarks. "We have fought so long for gay people to adopt, or have foster children, have loving homes and the rest and for some reason there is some in the Congress or in the country which have not seen the wisdom of that. But the comments are hurtful, not constructive, and I don't know how far this bill will go, but it will give us a place to continue the discussion about why gay people should be able to…adopt."
