Dominican Republic Catholic Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez has said that openly gay U.S. ambassador James “Wally” Brewster should “focus on housework, since he's the wife to a man.”
Rodriguez's outburst came after Brewster made comments about corruption in the country and accused police officers of assaulting several American investors who were attending a local conference.
The cardinal also said he “couldn't care less” about the ambassador's statement that those who feel the U.S. embassy is too involved in Dominican affairs should return their U.S. visa because he is “not interested in travelling.”

The U.S. Embassy has declined comment to comment on the spat.
