Oceanographers recently discovered an unusual octopus living at a depth of 4,290 meters. The cephalopod lacks pigment, making it look like a ghost. Scientists aboard the NOAA ship Oceans Explorer found the creature while exploring the deep sea northeast of Hawaii’s Necker Island in late February.
Exclaimed one oceanographer while viewing the beautiful octopus:
“That animal is not in the HURL (Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory) guide. In the immortal words of Taylor Smith (sic) ‘I have never, like, ever, seen that one.’ I know somebody is going to be really interested in this image.”
