GOP Strategist Peddling ‘Charlie Crist Sex Tape’ to Kill Gay Rumors?

Don’t get too excited. It’s not anything from Katherine Harris’ former field director Jason Wetherington. According to the blog Politics1, GOP political strategist Roger Stone is in possession of a ‘Charlie Crist Sex Tape’ which isn’t X-rated but shows Crist making out with his “girlfriend” (or “wife” as some would have it) in an elevator:

CristVia Politics1: “How interested is Florida Governor Charlie Crist in being John McCain’s VP runningmate? So much so that veteran GOP dirty trickster Roger Stone — who coordinated a few dirty stunts in support of Crist during the 2006 gubernatorial campaign — is quietly peddling a so-called ‘Charlie Crist sex tape.’ That’s what Stone called it during a telephone conversation. And no, it is not a tape of Crist having sex with a guy. In fact, it isn’t even X-rated. The video was seemingly staged to kill the rumors that Crist is gay. Stone claims the tape — which he discussed recently with Politics1, but didn’t show to us (‘I’m saving it for the national shows’) — ‘shows Charlie fooling around in a hotel elevator with his girlfriend … They’re making out.’ Adds Stone: ‘It was captured on a security camera in the elevator’ last month. And Stone just conveniently happens to have a copy of the hotel’s elevator surveillance tape, just when Crist’s name is in play for the VP spot. Hmm. As for Crist’s purported girlfriend — presuming it is the same one he took as his date to the White House Correspondents Dinner in DC a few weeks ago — she’s still married (and not to Crist). Disclaimer: Always be skeptical of anything from Stone.

Wow, that should convince the disbelievers. A Crist make-out tape.

Here’s an important piece of advice: If it looks like it’s going to be McCain/Palin anyway (and that should be a “no brainer” for Team McCain), McCain should announce NOW or VERY SOON, rather than later towards the convention. There’s currently a growing chorus for Obama/Hillary (as VP) ticket (in fact the Dems are likely aware of the Palin phenomenon). If the GOP waits while movement for Hillary as VP grows — even worse until after it is solidified that Hillary will/could be VP pick — selecting Palin will be portrayed by Dems/liberal media more as a reaction by GOP selecting its own female (overshawdoing Palin’s own remarkable assets), rather than McCain taking the lead on this. Selecting Palin now or early (contrary to the punditocracy) will mean McCain will be seen as driving the course of this campaign overwhelmingly, and the DEMS will be seen as merely reacting. And, there’s absoultely no down-side to this because even if Hillary is a no-go as VP for Obama, the GOP gains by acting early. McCain the maverick. Palin the maverick. Do it now!

There’s no reason, and actually substantial negative, in McCain waiting to see what the Dems do first insofar as his picking Palin as VP, because, no matter who Obama picks, Palin is by far (and I mean far) the best pick for McCain and the GOP, especially in this time of GOP woes. The GOP can be seen as the party of real ‘change’ (albeit I hate that mantra, change, change, bla bla), while not really having to change from GOP core conservative values, which Palin more than represents.

In light of the current oil/energy situation, as well as the disaffected female Hillary voters situation, and growing focus on McCain’s age and health, Palin is more than perfect — now.

(Perhaps Team McCain is already on to this.)

The Democrats should play this tape far and wide if she is indeed married – this is adultery pure and simple to the religious right. If they are already leery of McCain, this will only add to it. If they downplay the adultery aspect, then their hypocrisy is exposed. “Separated” doesn’t count to the RR – the bible is quite plain to them on this issue.

The Republican party may be in disarray, but I just can’t believe they would be so foolish as to select a closeted gay man — from FLORIDA, yet! — as VP in this election.

On the other hand, it would mean the race would be handicapped fairly, with one form of bigotry working against each candidate no matter who the presidential nominee is.

There’s a fascinating piece in the new issue of the New Yorker about Roger Stone. The man is a slimebag. He has Nixon’s face tattooed on his back. What more need be said.

  5. Paul says

How do we know that this tape isn’t just of Crist and Stone in a woman’s wig? Hmm. Check out Stone’s Wikipedia page for a laugh. See if you can guess who wrote it.

And Romney should have been the Republican nominee in the first place. The only reason he wasn’t was because of all the baptist bigots who voted early on and would never dream of electing a Mormon.

His problem was also that he is a robot.

Just type in the way you want him to stand on an issue and he will spout on about it, gladly.

One day he is pro choice and pro gay, the next he is anti-choice and anti gay. One day he says “I am more liberal than teddy kenedy” and the next he isn’t.

Romney the robot being such a tool is why he didn’t get the nomination.

His being mccain’s vp will have nothing to do with any merits but rather with his connections.

Jeb bush was tied to his hip and Pappa Bush adores him. He is/ was the Bush clan pick. Mister 23% still holds the reigns of power in the repub party sich they are such lock step little lemmings worshiping “authority”. That is why Romney will be mccain’s vp, not because of any real human merits.

Could you be salivating any more, Ted? The Republicans are a lost cause this year, but if you miss their authoritarian tripe enough, maybe a move to China would do you good.

Palin is a vapid twit, and she’ll almost certainly be consumed by claims of inexperience the moment McCain utters her name. In fact, I hope she’s chosen… Big mistake for the Rethuglicans in the GE.

He and I met at Chardees restaurant one night a few years back. He told me he loved to face-sit while having his hole tongued. I remember it was very tight. He refused my finger, as he is afterall a republican. He came in his own hand and ate it (which is kind of gay in my opinion), but said he wasn’t gay and only does that to prevent a possible future Lewinsky blue dress situation.

Nort for nuttin’, but when did Mr. Stone return from the battlefield? Last we heard of him; he skipped on an appearance of Politically Incorrect ’cause the NY Post found his ManHunt (sic) ad wich told of his need for military keilbsa sandwiches with his wife watching (participating).

what gives? is republican dick swinging accepted now?

I like Charlie Christ and if he runs again will be voting for him. I am not looking forward to McCain taking Charlie. So far he has been a very good Governor and his replacement is pretty conservative; not going to have the same views as Charlie. He has done a great job with the Insurance issue. About the time he took office my insurance for windstorm went from $1,800 to $6,000 and this year just dropped to $1,800. With regards to social issues he has been pretty liberal for a Republican.

I usually don’t approve of outing guys, but I make an exception for politicians. They shape public policy and can change our laws. If Christ is gay, then isn’t there one brave gay man who has had sex with him who will come forward? It just takes one who can document a relationship. As a Democrat, of course, I hope that he doesn’t get outed until after he – possibly – gets nominated for VP by McCain. It would be delicious to watch McCain and Republicans squirm with discomfort. Would they force him off the ticket for being gay? Would Christ step down? On the other hand, it might be the only reason that I would vote for the Republican ticket.

ROFLWPMP JMG, Thanks. Oh so funny AND TRUE. Not to throw a bone unnecessarily to this rag, but, for easy reference: – again, worth a read with more than a grain of salt.

    Can anyone spell B – E – A – R – D ?

Weird how McCain has historically always surrounded himself with gay staff (so to speak) in private. This is well known publicly, and I know it for a fact privately. George Allen also purportedly did so, though I have no personal experience of that. WTF?

McCain, behind closed doors was gay friendly and supportive way before doing so was cool. I do not know what has happened to McCain recently, it beggars belief when compared to (who we thought he was) 8 years before. I really miss who I thought he was, a perceived conscience to the barren and bankrupt Republicans. I thought.

  13. Jimmyboyo says

Pat Buchanan (yeah I know, a racist f@ck neanderthal)said like last year that ALL top level repubs do such.

In private all the repub politicians and all the wealthy repubs are very gay friendly and only do the anti-gay thing for the rubes.

  14. Jason says

Not misplaced at all. I am voting 100% for now on; on issues that affect me day to day. After voting singularly on gay issues for 20 years when the rest of my politics are pretty conservative, I have decided from here and out I will vote primarilly on what affects my wallet.
