Kelly Clarkson: Hopefully This Won't Suck

Clarkson

The original American Idol is back with a new single with a radio date of January 19th. From the looks of this glossy, airbrushed, 'hard candy' heart cover, it looks like it may signal a return to the addictive pop hooks of Breakaway, wisely steering away from the harder rock experiment My December.

  3. I thought My December was a better album than Breakaway. Shame it wasn't so successful.

  4. I'm also an out and proud My December advocate. Great album from start to finish.

  5. I actually really liked My December as well. The cover was a bit too emo, but everything else was ace, and Sober was the best song she's ever done.

  6. @ the above commenters: Yr gay. Yr supposed to hate all things rocknroll and love all things plastic and pop. Tsk tsk. You must have missed the memo.

  7. I love this girl. She's not trashy, stays way out of the spotlight when not promoting an album, and she's actually got an awesome voice range. Finally, the antidote to Shitney Spears (ok, I love the latter a tiny bit).

  8. count me in too... My December was attacked behind the scenes for months ye insider industry types to punish her for being "independent" (ironic given her first hit single!). Same shit goes on with movies we "are told suck" and then we see them and say to ourselves "it wasn't all THAT bad"

She gotten eaten alive by the industry. period.

  11. I could never listen to music that had an album cover that looks anything like that.

  12. sure, because if you don't like rock, you have no taste. whatever. i liked My December, but i liked Breakaway too. i also like classical and opera. so does that make me better than you rock lovers?

  13. I am salivating at the thought of new stuff from Kelly! The same producer/songwriter team from Since U Been Gone is producing this new single, so it should be catchy and radio-friendly.

When it comes to individual songs Breakway had better singles (from Since U Been Gone through Walk Away: a million hooks worth of pop goodness) but as a whole album I'd rather listen to My December. Irvine and Sober are far better than any of the slow songs from Breakaway or Thankful (excepting Because Of You)

  14. Absolutely love the cover!! Can't wait for the single/CD!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Count me in the minority of December fans as well. It was an overall better effort; the songs were more mature and less pop than Breakaway. The whole point was for Kelly to expand a bit. I hope this isn't too saccharine...

  16. The single cover is beautiful. I love it. I own all of her albums and love them all. She's so versatile. When is her new album coming out? because I'm going to get it for sure.

  17. IMHO, The one and only American Idol!! Ever, Still..

  18. Loved My December as well as Breakaway. It was actually great to see that she could get away from the whole 'pop' thing - even though that's not what Clive Davis wanted. I am sure this will be good.

  19. I loved December, and I'm glad to see many other people did as well. I thought the whole ordeal just showed what a bully Clive Davis can be. To publicly pan an album before it's released simply because you want to prove the point that you're in charge? Regardless, I'm on board with whatever KC does. Bring it on.

  20. I would hope that Towleroaders would want KC to branch out. We've got Hillary and that Miley gurl to be the new Brittneys. We need more woman who rock!

  21. As an experimental composer/performance artist, I'm all for letting Kelly do whatever the hell she wants to do. If the marketplace doesn't like what she's cranking out, there's her answer right there. I'm not one to deny her the place to do her artistic self-expression, even if no one else is buying. If Clive wants something that sells, let him drop Kelly and find someone else that's cresting on the wave right now and run that into the ground. It's not about developing artists anymore anyway; that went out the window with Clive after Whitney Houston crashed and burned.

  22. I am excited for Kelly's new CD, but I love My December. Bravo to Kelly for experimenting with her sound, standing up to Clive Davis, and following her heart. I will support an artist like her any day!

  23. Did you see this incredible cover of My Life Would Suck Without You?

I'm obsessed with the guy in it! So freakin' hot!
