Watch: Anderson Cooper on the Firing of Andrew Shirvell

  1. Shirvell is a nut-job waiting to explode.

He appears to be a closet case so full of self-loathing, and his mind is so warped, that his only refuge is to hate others.

Sometime in Shirvell's twisted upbringing he became so ashamed of his own desires, that the only way he could exist was to act outwardly against them.

One wonders what was the damage that this nut-job's parents did to him to raise such a deranged adult.

  2. Armstrong sounds like he has a good lawyer, and Shirvell has dug a deep hole that he'll have trouble getting out of. Funny that he got fired more for lying, which is what will get him disbarred.

  3. Buh-bye Shrivell (misspelling intended!), off you go back to the dank little hole that you crawled out from!

  4. Soooo satisfying to watch someone be taken down by their own horrible behavior (and that goes for all the homophobes, Rentboy users, preachers, politicians with wide stances, etc.). Just satisfying.

  5. the simple fact - Andrew Shirvell is a self-loathing homosexual who has a dangerously sick crush on Chris Armstrong.

  6. I'm looking forward to Paul Reubens playing Shirvell in the movie.

  7. An appropriate decision was made. Let's hope the police are keeping an eye on this former AG.....he just seems unstable and it would be horrible if he did something even worse as a result.

  8. The guy is not just a psycho, he's a stalker. Anyone who has been unfortunate enough to attract a stalker knows that they are not just annoying nuisances. They tend to be dangerous, especially when it finally sinks in they can't have the object of their affection.

I hope we've heard the end of this story, but I'm afraid we haven't.

  9. Shirvell is obviously a terrible representative of legal law enforcement, a bully, a harasser, and a stalker.

But on what evidence are people in this thread saying that Shirvell is a homosexual?

Is it his nebbish, higher than average voice?

As LGBT folks we don't want to perpetuate stereotypes that perceived effeminacy equals homosexuality. Remember: there are plenty of "masculine acting" gay men.

The Shirvell case is different than Larry Craig and George Rekers who were caught in homosexual activity, the former in a bathroom, the latter returning from a European holiday with a homosexual prostitute.

So let's not stoop to the level of the homophobes and call a possibly effeminate man gay.

The fact are these: He's despicable, hateful, lying, harassing, stalking, and defaming. He's a bad law enforcement attorney. But we don't know if Shirvell is gay.

  10. I don't understand why they keep describing Shirvell's stalking behavior as 'inexplicable' when his homophobic fixation is so blatant.

  11. The now fired AG is a very sick man.

The fact that this is even questioned or took so long is a very clear example of what is wrong in our society.

He will be made a hero of the New Far Right Wing.

  12. I know it has been said before but -- The AG is a Christianist. The assistant helped get him elected and is also a Christianist.

The fact that the corporate media - including Anderson - never mention this is chilling.

  13. @Brenda, it's called gaydar, sweetie. Shirvell sets it off like a five-alarm fire. And if you think it's "homophobia" to call a "possibly" (like Shirvell isn't?) effeminiate man gay, then words can't express how contemptible that is.

There's something wrong with being effeminate? There's something wrong with being gay? Please pack up your anti-gay bigotry and/or anti-gay self-hate and take it to a professional that can help you with that. But don't flaunt it for the world to see and call yourself morally superior to others who don't see anything wrong with being either, but can recognize an obviously gay psycho when they see one.

And, yes, honey, the psycho who is fixated on the handsome young gay man is gay. It doesn't take Freud to figure that out. But it takes someone who really hates gay people to deny it.

    Just my two cents.

  14. It surprises me that someone like Shirvell managed to reach the position he did, especially given his problems. Had he been nipped in the bud earlier on the situation with Chris Armstrong wouldn't have occurred.

I have a beloved friend who has had a stalker for the past five years, and the stalker has always creeped me out, especially now that it has dawned on him that my friend wants nothing to do with him. I only hope and pray that nothing will happen to either of them or anyone else. This is one of the reasons why Shirvell scares me so much.

To Brenda: while I don't think it is right for JustMe to insult you, he is otherwise correct. The friend I mentioned is male, and his stalker is also male, and is clearly a gay stalker. I know it the moment I laid eyes on him, and his vocal patterns and mannerisms, and the fect that he checks out guys all the time, including me, when he thinks no one is looking, give him away. Yet his facebook page says that he is interested in women. Funny, its always the closet cases who say that. The look in his eyes frightens me, and he rubs everyone i know who knows him the wrong way, thay are all frightened of him. Gay male stalkers are a lot more common than people, hetero or homo, would like to acknowledge; think of all the nerdy and/or effeminate insecure gay boys who fixate on and then stalk hansome, masculine boys. That is just the situation that occurred with my friend.

  15. notice how Shirvell calls Anderson Cooper 'Chris' at 3:37. That's wild. Cox (pre-firing) calls Shirvell 'satisfactory' at 4:30.

    lol, Crispy.

And...yeah..don't pile on Brenda...! But, yes, the stalking, not the effeminacy, is the reason that the posters are calling out Shirvell.

I'm so glad it's not me, but, this story is so fucking bizarre...and, I'm sorry....wildly entertaining.

One more point....does Andy pic the best screen captures, or what...!?! This one, and last week's Boehner's simulated bj, are perfection..!

  16. you can be sure this nut case is working on his discrimination charges against the ag and the state of michigan and he will want damages.

  17. Gary is right: Shirvell is a closeted self-loathing gay man with a very sick fascination with Armstrong. We should really feel sorry for the guy as he's destroyed his own career and life probably due to his own fear of accepting who he is.

  18. You would tempted to think that once he is unbarred as a lawyer he will finally comes to term to all his mistakes and chill out etc.. But as many pointed out here, he’s a sick psycho, it’s very likely that he instead will devote his life to try to harm the student as hard as he can and that implies obviously dangerous paths. I hope the harassed dude take all the measures to protect himself and prevent this loose crazy to become news again.

  19. @RJP3...hmmmm, what's a Christianist?...a far rightist or leftist Christian? an offshoot of Methodists? Deists? Atheists?...just curious about your phrasing...otherwise, you're on the mark....
