  1. "The Laws of Nature* that our Founders invoked also compel us to recognize marriage as the union of one man and one woman."

*as interpreted by right-wing christian fundamentalists

  2. There is nothing wrong with a female running mate. The problem in 2008 was the one chosen was batsh*t crazy.

  3. Very nice!

  4. Just saw the new Spidey reboot and I have to admit, Andrew Garfield was a much more 'real' Peter Parker than Tobey. (Also admit his acrobatics and skills were much more unreal, even for a comic hero.)

  5. Ditto on the female running mate. Qualified is qualified and crazy is crazy, regardless of gender. No need to comment/eliminate all females from Veep just cuz Palin is nutzoid.

  6. "Here, because the world demanded it, is an Alexander McQueen dress made of 50,000 gummy bears."

Can we please turn down the level of snark and condescension? Yesterday you said that the US government funded a study on mermaids (untrue) just to make a snarky comment, and now this.

  7. Is the Ann Romney hyperlink correct?

  8. Chloe Svigny should give Drew Droege a small royalty for re-energizing her brand.

And totally agree about Andrew Garfield. He was terrific as Peter Parker.

  9. One of the advantages wills has over the Pope...how's that for an open-ended opening?

Well, one is that he gets to wear a much more intriguing and attractive variety of dress-up for different occasions. Harry, who looks great in his military duds, probably couldn't put on that velvet bonnet without making faces and dancing.

I only hope that there was some protective pouch under those enormous dangling golden threaded tassels.

  10. Sounds like Beenie Man is evolving, its not a very large intuitive leap to equality from where he is now.

  11. beanie man = idiota!

  12. There was some talk earlier in the week that Michelle Bachmann was being vetted for VP but that's too good to be true. Crazy Eyes would go over like lead balloon.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear Condoleezza Rice's name though, which could do some damage despite her involvement in the Iraq debacle. For some unknown reason people still respect her.

  13. William was made a Knight of the Order of the Thistle. This is an order in the gift of the Queen and is similar to the Order of the Garter in England. The Order of the Thistle is the second most senior order of chivalry in the UK (after the Order of the Garter).

  14. Re: comment in post about Romney quote about female running mate....

At first I thought it came off kinda sexist against women...but then I realized that what the snark was about was the belief she was chosen *because* she was a woman, not because she was the best VP candidate.

And that kind of sexism, to choose because of their gender without first regard to their qualifications, would be a disaster.

Granted there are certain perspectives that come from the experiences of living a certain gender's life, but in each case it would need to be asked if that perspective is the driving need for the running mate's qualifications....

  15. I'm not sure that's a picture of the gummy dress. I've been kind of obsessed with them since I was young (I have small gummy lights and a gummy chandelier), and I think it's the other dress on the link. Also, that model is horribly thin, especially apparent in the other shot, and I rarely think that about anyone. Even models.

  16. The problem with the "female" VP candidate, the talk is Michelle Bachmann.

  17. Musto has a valid point. He came out years ago, stayed out and got zero respect, unlike Cooper, who is supposedly a "hero" for finally coming out kicking and screaming from the closet. Why? Admittedly, Musto is a gossip journalist as opposed to Cooper, who at least in the beginning of his career, was a credible journalist, but sadly because Musto is homely, femme, and no one desires him, no one cares about him being out and proud for decades. Beauty trumps most everything else in the gay world, it seems. Sad.

    Posted by: Graphicjack | Jul 5, 2012 9:38:47 PM

  18. Maybe it's because Musto is fairly annoying, was a club kid, and wears ugly clothes. Oh, and times have changed.

    Posted by: Paul R | Jul 5, 2012 9:44:11 PM

  19. OMG!!!!! M Musto is GAY?????

    Posted by: entrepoid | Jul 5, 2012 10:23:26 PM

  20. FYI: The gummy bear dress was an homage to McQueen made by Hissa Igarashi and Sayuri Marakumi. Although inspired by the gown in the picture, it wasn't actually produced by his house.

  21. Oh wow - Romney pulled in a lot of money. Then again, it's easy to rake in the cash when you're BFFs with billionaires.

  22. Anyone claiming to be able to cure HIV/AIDS by prayer should be jailed. This is very, very dangerous.

    Posted by: Icebloo | Jul 6, 2012 3:48:19 AM

  23. agree with Musto. Big whoop Anderson finally "came" out, even though everyone already knew he was gay. So brave of him!

Graphicjack, I didn't know he was a respected and serious journalist. The first time I heard of him was on reality TV "the mole".

    Posted by: oousslander | Jul 6, 2012 8:29:58 AM

  24. As a Brit, just want to point out that the correct term is English Channel, not British Channel!

    Posted by: Zak | Jul 6, 2012 9:18:34 AM

  25. Uhm, Musto was a print journalist for a small newspaper in NY, not a national anchor/correspondent on TV, so the comparison is not apt on that level alone. Further, Musto would deny his gayness for years until being forced out of the closet by some of the celebrities he bitched about. Let's not whitewash his past.
