"I’m hoping that the Obama Justice Department will file a legal brief related to the Supreme Court’s pending hearing of the case involving Proposition 8, one detailing the administration’s view that Prop 8 is unconstitutional. This would send a strong message that the culture is changing, and could help lead to a sweeping ruling from the Court, one that will effectively put state laws prohibiting gay marriage on the path to extinction."

  1. Five of the nine current members of the Puerto Rican Supreme Court were appointed by Luis Fortuno, a right-wing homophobe who actively supported the campaign of Mitt Romney. Elections have consequences and electing Republicans almost always means bad things for LGBT people. Had Puerto Rico elected a progressive governor in the 2008 elections, this decision would have come down differently.

  2. I'm not usually a stickler for formatting, but in this case it's probably useful, Andy :)

  3. All this history, history, history and Obama. History is written after the fact. Let us define history, in case you don't know how historic everything will be. Right now only historic aspect would be The First Lady with her bangs and straight hair.

  4. hopefully "Days of Future past" isnt just a title but is an actual portrayal of the very popular x-men story arc "Days of Future past" = dystopian future where mutants are in internment camps and sentinels rule

  5. "Spontaneously combusted " .....are you serious ?

  6. It's a slow burn and there's always a source of ignition. Nothing spontaneous about it.
But if you're superstitious and believe in beings in the sky, ascensions and raising from the dead then i guess "spontaneous combustion" is small beer to you !
    Shine on Oklahoma.

  7. Elegir is right. If that appeared on, say, FotF's website, we'd be all over them. Fortunately it seems like a simple lack of a newline.

  8. Without the hating of the gay the Southern Baptists would lack a basis for their Christianity! If they loved me, they'd have to quit church.

  10. Spontaneous combustion! Geesh. That woo woo was debunked and explained decades ago. America please, don’t regress, what’s next? Gays are straights possessed by demons? If we don’t have high standards of understanding and skepticism, don’t pretend others to avoid falling into simplistic bullshitery.

  13. Spontaneous human combustion is believed to be caused by the 'Wick Effect'. But it's a theory and they really aren't sure.

I wouldn't rag too much on the firemen in Oklahoma and elsewhere who come across this very rare event. It must be quite a shocking and disturbing thing to see for a first responder like firemen, cops, paramedics. I'm sure those mocking them on here would vomit and find it highly psychologically disturbing if they came across such an event in person, themselves. People like firemen, cops, paramedics must deal with some terrible sights like decomposing bodies, horrible mutilations, weird suicides, awful stuff.

Anyways, they didn't claim it was caused by anything suoernatural, just that it's a weird and unusual event, which it is.

  14. Michelle Obama's hair looks fine. If she had it au naturale, i.e. afro-style, it would look fine, too. I don't know why some people rag on blck women who straighten their hair. White, Asian and other women do all kinds of stuff to their hair, too.

  15. There is nothing in academic science (that is, not pseudoscience) called spontaneous human combustion. Just because there is not such thing. Only the slow burning of the fatty tissue of a dead body -experiments have been done with pigs for instance- when a chemical accelerant is used. Many times the intend to dispose a body using a combustible chemical just ends up initiating the combustion (think what happens with an oil lamp) instead of setting the whole body in fire to destroy it. Or sometimes the person himself was in a propitious scenario. In science (the point is important) there is not such thing as a theory used as a “guess”, theory has a completely different meaning and relates to well a substantiated explanation for a physical fact, many people should use the word HYPOTHESIS instead, that is, a proposed explanation that still lacks of proof under the parameters of the scientific methods. Obviously hypothesis are not gratuitous delusions, must be built with scaffoldings able to concatenate with already known facts of the physical world.
