U.S. Department of Interior Says "It Gets Better"

Picture 9

Park rangers, geologists and other employees of the U.S. Department of Interior have released a video as part of the "It Gets Better" campaign, retelling the trauma of their youth and how they overcame it to become the awesome stewards of the environment that they are today. You might cry.

(By the way, does anyone know what that rainbow-colored pond is behind him?)

Watch the video AFTER THE JUMP.

  1. That's Grand Prismatic Pool in Yellowstone National Park.

  2. I think that rainbow-colored pond are one of those geyser or thermal basins that can be found in Yellowstone and possibly where there are hot springs.

Nice gesture from the Department of Interior!

  3. Raphael beat me to it. It is, as he says, the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone. It's very impressive. So was this video.

  5. Thanks for the info! When I first saw it I thought of the crash sites in sci-fi movies that the alien armies emerge from.

  6. I applaud the Department for allowing personnel in uniform to do this. Take that Santorum!

  7. Know this has already been commented, but that is indeed Grand Prismatic spring in the Midway Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National, viewed from a hill on the trail to Fairy Falls.

  8. What a great bunch of people. Bet they get a lot of lgbt people applying for jobs there.

  9. This video campaign is so f*cked up! It's so easy to set yourself up as a shining light to children whose life circumstances you don't even know about. Why is the emphasis on surviving brutality until "it gets better" (which it often doesn't) instead of putting a stop to the brutality and making it better for LGBT kids???!!!

  10. That's a terrific video. Maybe the realization that these people all work for the government and are being treated fairly and honestly will help kids understand that there are those they can turn to who can make things happen.

  11. At Stuffed Animal: I notice you are quick to criticize but are short on a better solution.

  14. Stuffed Animal: Yes, we need to make it better for the kids in school. But that isn't going to happen instantaneously, and we need them to stick around, speak out, stick up for themselves when they can and this is a start.

  15. @ STUFFED ANIMAL: volunteer with the PFLAG Speakers Bureau to visit kids in school and tell your story and to help them end bullying. Give money to GLSEN to support GSAs. And Ronny is right, the IGB project is fantastic in the meantime.

  16. Not bad and it uses real gays & lesbians in it too -- even better.

How dare YOU act sanctimonious. Your holier-than-thou attitude tell me you have a Helluva lot of work to do. When a Transsexual woman is transphobic, it sure ain't pretty!

You want to help LGBT youth? Stop bashing trans sisters such as Ashley Love, Autumn Sandeen and Monica Roberts! Stop with your misgendering and your lewd and snide comments! Stop attempting erasure of our own self identified trans narratives! Stop with your obscene and sexist attacks of Taylor, Pam, Autumn and Ashley! And above all, stop with your vicious cyber-stalking, sugah!

Acknowledge your own plushie/furry transgender identity, sugah. Wearing fishnet stockings, a women's wig and makeup in a profile pic but bashing trans women is a tragic case of passive aggressive self hatred!

  18. @ Stuffed Animal:

Why do you only use your "female name" "DAWN" on Craigslist personals and when you are bashing trans women on trans blogs? Why do you revert to the asexual "Stuffed Animal" on gay blogs?

Are you gender queer? Or just trying to subvert trans women with your gender queer patriarchy and hegemony?

  19. Such mendacity, rudeness, vulgarity, vindictiveness, smug condescension and snide swagger. This STUFFED ANINMAL creature exhibits them all. I wonder if there could actually be a nice person underneath that nasty attitude she carries around?

There's an uplifting message from IT GETS BETTER that you surely could benefit from ... but you have to open your heart in order to receive it. How's about it, then? Do you even have enough heart left to make the effort?
