Washington Governor Gregoire Says She'll Lobby NJ Governor Chris Christie on Marriage Equality: AUDIO

Gregoire

Washington Governor Chris Gregoire, who will be signing Washington's marriage equality bill on Monday, discusses the response she has received and a potential voter referendum on the measure, Think Progress reports.

She also says she'll lobby New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who has said he plans to veto a similar measure in his state.

Said Gregoire: "I have worked with him on a number of issues, so yea, I would feel very comfortable sharing with him, my personal journey the overwhelming response that I’ve received and how good I feel about myself today and I have not felt good about this issue and about where I stood for a number of years."

San Francisco Police Department: It Gets Better

Sfpd

Just released. This one is outstanding.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

Writes the SFPD:

The making of this video was a concerted effort by numerous members of the SFPD with the assistance of San Francisco film maker Shawn Northcutt who produced and edited the video along with San Francisco local musician Lynden Bair who developed the musical score.

"Today our Police Department joins the nationwide campaign to end bullying of LGBT youth by producing a heartfelt video that provides a message of hope and encouragement that it will get better," said Mayor Ed Lee. "San Francisco is a city that prides itself on embracing equality for all and this video is another great example of our commitment to reinforcing our City's values."

Chief Greg Suhr wants youth to know that it really does get better. "This is a first of its kind video for the SFPD and for any law enforcement agency in the United States. I hope this message of encouragement will give hope to anyone who might be bullied because of who they are. The members of the SFPD will continue to work with all young people and reach out to the communities, as mentors and role models."

It doesn't bother me. [I'm discriminated against] because I'm old. I'm too old to get a job as a game show host. They say, well, the guy's 71 and in five years he'll be 76. Anchorage, Alaska in Final Push Toward LGBT Anti-Discrimination Law

Dan Savage alerts us to a situation in Anchorage, Alaska, where they are trying to pass an equal rights initative on the ballot. protections they've been fighting for for 35 years.

AnchorageRead Dan's whole post about it here.

He writes:

To combat the inevitable, last-minute anti-gay/anti-trans hate campaign, One Anchorage is raising money to get television ads on the air up here in the last weeks of the campaign. They're asking people to consider donating $35—one dollar for each year that Anchorage has been fighting for equality and basic civil rights protections. (There are no limits on campaign donations for initiatives up here, so if you're moved to donate $350 or $3500 or $3,500,000, please don't hesitate.) There's also the 35/35/35 Club: Ask 35 friends to donate $35 each. You can set up your own page at One Anchorage and you'll get a fundraising thermometer of your very own!

We scored major victories in California and Washington state this week. But the LGBT community in Anchorage is still struggling to achieve the most basic civil rights protections.
