Activist David Mixner Invites You to a Times Square Vigil for Equality

Mixner

Longtime activist David Mixner invites you to join him in Times Square on the eve of the Supreme Court hearings on marriage:

On Sunday evening (March 24) at 7:00PM, I will be taking a candle to Times Square - the window to the world and standing silently for one hour to give witness. I will be standing behind the half price ticket booth. There will be no speeches (although music is always welcomed) and no anger.

Have zero idea if it will be just me standing alone with my candle or just me and a few friends.

However, I am inviting you to come and stand with me to give witness to the nation and the world how important that week will be for LGBT American obtaining freedom and equality.

If the spirit moves you and you in New York City come on down to Times Square with your candle, your determination to fully equal and spend an hour with me.

Much love and peace.

Bridge

For the next two years starting tonight, San Francisco's Bay Bridge will host artist Leo Villareal's magnificent installation "The Bay Lights", a shimmering LED sculpture that draws its inspiration from the bridge's surroundings - boats, waves, clouds, the city itself.

The project has been privately financed for $8 million.

Fantastic.

NCAA Releases Guide on LGBT Issues for Administrators, Coaches, and Students

The NCAA released an 82-page guide this week to help administrators, coaches, and students with LGBT issues when they arise in sports, the NYT reports:

TaylorThe guide, titled “Champions of Respect,” was co-authored by Pat Griffin, professor emeritus of social justice education at Massachusetts-Amherst, and Hudson Taylor (right), founder of Athlete Ally, an organization with a mission of ending homophobia in sports.

It includes everything from terminology to guidelines for creating an inclusive environment, according to Taylor, a former all-American wrestler at Maryland. It provides instructions for a variety of scenarios, including how a coach should react when an athlete comes out or how to handle intrasquad dating...

...“My work at Athlete Ally, whether speaking to professional athletes or college students, is to answer the tough questions,” Taylor said in a statement. “We need to delve deep to make sure that every sports participant can engage as a valued member of his or her team.”

Anderson Cooper Talks About GLAAD Award, Madonna: VIDEO

Glaad_anderson

As has been previously noted, Anderson Cooper will be receiving GLAAD's Vito Russo Award this year and Madonna is presenting it to him. Lisa Rinna made note of it on his daytime show today.

In related news, a group of rabid Little Monsters is reportedly threatening GLAAD over its choice of presenter, making false claims about Madonna, who was a fierce campaigner for safe sex during the AIDS crisis:

Madonna is one of the major reasons for AIDS. Back in the 1980’s, she encouraged gay men to have unprotected sex. While she certainly didn’t start the disease, she and her lack of morals helped it spread.

Please rethink your choice of having Madonna as a presenter. If you don’t, we Little Monsters will strike back in a way you won’t like.

Sincerely,
Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters
