Rachel Maddow dissected the surreal scene in Grayson, Kentucky yesterday outside the Carter County Detention Center where Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for contempt after refusing to abide by the Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide, had been jailed.
In particular, Maddow examined one awkward moment caught on camera that shows a Mike Huckabee aide blocking Ted Cruz from getting in on the ‘Kim Davis money shot’, seen here:

Said Maddow, “So when it comes to political exploitation of the county clerk who’s in contempt of court in Kentucky, we have an obvious winner.” And while there were plenty of equally hilarious and cringe-worthy moments throughout that anti-gay rally yesterday, one of the most entertaining moments certainly has to be Ted Cruz’s sad failed attempt to exploit Davis for his own political advantage. Maddow went on,
“Who knows why Ted Cruz allowed himself to be physically boxed off the stage…Ted Cruz at one point even turned up as a sad little photo bomber in the corner of this picture of another candidate who also did a better job than him exploiting the situation today. That in the middle there between the county clerk and her husband is the Republican candidate for Governor looking super psyched to be there with the contempt of court clerk.”
