After much brouhaha over Dustin Lance Black's tweet to Sam Smith over Smith's acceptance speech at last night's Oscars, Black attempted to set the record straight (so to speak) about the spirit behind his social media missive.
Said Black on Twitter, “Well this has proven to be a lively day on Twitter. From humor to anger. The former my intent… in defense of history. Much love to all.” Black then went further in attempting to clarify his original tweet, posting, “Dear Internet: @TomDaley1994 and @samsmithworld are pals. They text. Thus my surprise Sam took me for a closet case! Feel free to laugh.”

Black's original tweet to Smith read, “Hey @SamSmithWorld, if you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiancé.”
