Sarah Palin At The Right Online 'New Media' Conference: VIDEO

It would take a long, long essay to untangle all the inaccuracies in Sarah Palin's headlining address at the Right Online conference this weekend. (The most glaring, to this viewer, has to do with Barack Obama's energy policies, which have resulted in unprecedented energy independence for the United States -- but never mind.) Suffice it to say: This is a woman who, despite having once majored in journalism, was incapable of naming an American newspaper less than five years ago, and who is now speaking authoritatively to a roomful of adulateurs about the future of media.

What's heartbreaking about Palin's address is the way she bluntly discounts the Americanness of those who disagree with her, and especially those who've actually taken to the street to protest voice those disagreements -- say, when she visited Wisconsin to support embattled governor Scott Walker. Dissenters aren't people to be engaged: they're savage, sex-and-violence crazed thugs who must be combatted and expelled from the American conversation. It's internet-troll logic, improbably elevated into the highest heights of American political discourse.

And then there's this moment of pure class, during which Palin excoriates the American media for failing to "vet" Barack Obama in 2008:

Why did they at least not read his autobiography? They’d have a learned a whole lot. They’d have learned a whole lot, and not just about that pot smoking and that cocaine snorting and what he ate -- Fido, Rufus. I think it is funny that the cocktail circuit circus gives me a hard time for eating elk and moose, but come on. There’s a difference. Anybody here have a pet moose? There’s a difference.

... except it's not the "cocktail party" circuit, and it's certainly not President Obama. It's the tabloids. And by having a go at Fido and coke, she's joined their cause.

In death, as in life, Andrew Breitbart inspires terrible journalism.

On April 19th, U.S. Rep. Yvette Clarke, a Democrat of New York City, spoke to a gathering of Democrats in the neighborhood of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. She spoke about the importance of civil society; about the public institutions that shaped and influenced her early life. The Brooklyn Academy of Music. The Brooklyn Botanical Garden. The Brooklyn Museum. Prospect Park. She spoke about a lot of other things as well: obstructionism in the federal government, the Paul Ryan budget, the importance of entrepreneurship.

Rep. Clarke also spoke passingly about the Tea Party.

The hacks at did what they so often do, and edited Rep. Clarke's remarks so they appeared to be about something other than what they're about -- so that they appeared to be a shrill diatribe against "crazy" Tea Party supporters. Rep. Clarke's edited speech was picked up last week by Glenn Beck's The Blaze, and now Rep. Clarke's receiving threats of violence from Tea Party folk. She felt compelled to alert the police on Thursday.

Watch Rep. Clarke's edited remarks AFTER THE JUMP, followed by her actual address, delivered in three parts.

Sarah Palin On Obama's Racism

If you haven't seen this yet -- if you've stayed away, as did I, because you suspect you really don't need more Sarah Palin in your life right now -- well, give it a chance. Its awfulness approaches the level of art.

This is Sarah Palin responding to the bogus controversy about Barack Obama's 22-year-old hug of semi-controversial law professor Derrick Bell -- a hug recently turned into news by minions of the deceased Andrew Breitbart; minions who apparently intend to continue their overlord's tradition of doing fake journalism with real videotape. Palin's response is rambling, tragic, bonkers; she goes into sentences with no exit plan. Watch AFTER THE JUMP ...

Conservative Activist and Publisher Andrew Breitbart Dead at 43

BreitbartConservative blogger, publisher, and activist Andrew Breitbart has died, Big Government reports:

Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles. We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior. Andrew lived boldly, so that we more timid souls would dare to live freely and fully, and fight for the fragile liberty he showed us how to love.

ABC News' Jake Tapper tweets: "LA coroner’s office confirms to ABC News Radio that Breitbart died shortly after midnight at UCLA Medical Center."

Politico reports:

[ editor-in-chief Joel] Pollak said that Breitbart had been taken by ambulance to the UCLA medical center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight. Pollak, who was present at the hospital, said that Breitbart had no known serious medical issues, but declined to say more on the matter out of respect to Breitbart family.

“He continues to inspire us, and we’ll be moving forward [on his projects]… as he would have wanted,” said Pollak. “We’re devastated by his loss.”

An autopsy is pending. Breitbart last tweeted at 11:25 pm Pacific Time, which is evidently shortly before he was taken to the hospital.

Breitbart was walking near his house in the Brentwood neighborhood shortly after midnight Thursday when he collapsed, his father-in-law, Orson Bean, said. Someone saw him fall and called paramedics, who tried to revive him. They rushed him to the emergency room at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, Bean said. Breitbart had suffered heart problems a year earlier, but Bean said he could not pinpoint what happened.

Andrew Breitbart Vs. Occupiers At CPAC: VIDEO

CPAC's all over. Sarah Palin closed it out with some standard-issue Obama bashing, which was interrupted only briefly by some Occupy folk trying to mic check. The convention spawned many hilarious and/or instructive videos, provided a lot of food for thought, and gave many of the country's most unrepentant homophobes a few blissful days in which they didn't have to feel like an unhip and disliked minority. For my money, the best moment of CPAC arrived Thursday night, out of doors, when Andrew Breitbart paid a visit to the Occupiers camped out by the CPAC Marriott.

Andrew Breitbart is America's most fascinating right-wing nutbag because he doesn't gussy up. He is a proud and practicing nutbag in thought, word, and deed. Some of his colleagues put on suits, trot out charts and make a show of reasonableness. Not Breitbart. He looks like a mad Russian revolutionary from the turn of the last century and lives like a has-been Irish poet in the depths of a wrathful bender. He is a part-time ally of the gays -- he was on the board of GOProud -- but he's otherwise an exemplar of everything weird and wrong and bloodthirsty at the political extremities of modern America. He and his friend James O'Keefe openly, willfully lie about and misrepresent un-famous, ordinary people who happen to possess differing political views -- ACORN employees; NPR executives; Shirley Sherrod -- just for the fun of it, just to hurt them, just because they're on the Other Side. There's no logic to it. Just inchoate anger, right there in the open. And it was never more in the open than Thursday at CPAC.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP, as the rich and powerful Mr. Breitbart tells a bunch of American kids exactly what he thinks of them.
